Federal government in Pakistan has its role in Policy
making only but on the ground, it is managed by the
provincial government.
Convention: is an agreement among different countries
of nations to achieve a common goal. Mostly these are
administrated by UNO.

achieve something. Wildlife Policy entails which
species are endangered, how to manage the
wetlands and protected areas etc.

Government took notice of it in 1960 but wildlife
was dealt by forest department at that time.

1st forest policy was developed in 1955. In this
policy wildlife was not mentioned but only forest
was discussed.

In 1962, a new policy was formulated but again
wildlife was not taken into account.

Next policy came in 1975 where forest and range
management were discussed.

4th Policy
Next policy came in 1980 which was called
“National policy on forestry and wildlife” . It was
after a very long time that wildlife was discussed
for the first time.
In 1980’s policy, with respect to wildlife it was
said to create national parks for the conservation
of wildlife.

In 1991, “Pakistan Forest Policy” came where
biodiversity & wildlife were discussed. Thus wildlife
started reflecting at the national level in the
government policies.

6th Policy
6th policy came in 2001. It was named as National
Forest Policy . In this wildlife, protected areas &
biodiversity were discussed in detail.
