2. Perspective plays an important part in this question… One
of the biggest reasons is that most religions are not
consistent with modern science and medicine. And since
9 11 many other people have realised that religions cause
wars, for example the Afghan war, the early crusades and
the Arab-Israeli war(s). From a slightly more historical
perspective priests used to be rich and almost every one else
was poor…

4. Is Atheism a religion?
There has been much debate about whether or not atheism is a
religion. The atheists say no, and the religious people say
yes.
The atheists are saying no for a number of reasons:
1. Dictionary.com states that religion is “A set of beliefs
concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe,
especially when considered as the creation of a superhuman
agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual
observances, and often containing a moral code governing
the conduct of human affairs.”
But the whole point of atheism is to not believe or accept that
there’s any mystical any spiritual powers.
5. 2. There is no place of worship.
3. There are no holidays.
4. There is no theory of the creation of
Earth…(apart from the scientific version!)
5.There is no concept of Afterlife.
These are the most commonly used arguments
for Atheism NOT being a religion…
But what does the opposing side say?
Continued from last slide…
6. The other side of the argument
The atheists opposition have many reasons why atheism is a religion,
here are just a few.
1. Like religious people, they have a strong world view- Materialism.
What the world is, is all there is…Nothing more, Nothing less.
2. They have faith in what the believe in. They believe that there are
no mystical, supernatural beings, so technically, they believe just as
much as one who is religious would, they just have faith in
different things.
3. Though this is similar to the first, I think it falls into a different
place… Atheists believe in something- There is no God. So those
who believe they religious and those who don’t really both believe
something, so therefore they are both religious because they believe
in something.
7. The End
Note: Though I have stated that religious people think
that atheism is a religion and vice-versa, this only a
large proportion of the religious and atheist
community, there are still many exceptions.
