Erebus was the primordial god of darkness in Greek mythology. He was one of the first protangonists to emerge at the dawn of creation along with Nyx, the goddess of night. Some of the other primordial deities that emerged included Hemera, the goddess of day, Aether the god of the sky, Cer the god of death, the Oneiroi god of dreams, Hypnos the god of sleep, Thanatos the god of death, Momus the god of criticism, and Nemesis the goddess of revenge. The Hesperides were guardians of the golden apples in Greek mythology. Geras was also the god of old age.
