1. I recently received a Repair Tag with “Battery on SCBA bad” written on it.
There are two batteries powering two different items on our SCBA:
There is a 9 volt battery in the Compass (PASS). When thatbattery is low, the
amber light on the frontof the Compass illuminates and when the battery is bad
the Pass devicesometimes fails to sound.
There is a 123 ‘camera’ type battery in the HUD Sensing Module, or Transducer.
The Transducer sends power to the HUD (Heads Up Display) through a wire down
the 2nd
StageRegulator when the pack is charged with air. When the battery is
low in the Transducer, theamber light on the front the Transducer goes from
blinking once every ten seconds (which indicates a good battery) to blinking once
every two seconds indicating a low battery.
Now…if you haverecently washed your SCBA or used it in a working fire, and your
HUD is showing a low battery light on the display and your Transducer is blinking
once every ten seconds indicating a good Transducer battery, you have a “low
battery light on HUD when wet”. The electrical potting has become compromised
and is wet and once it dries out the HUD will probably function properly again
however your HUD still needs to be replaced and the repair tag should read “low
battery light on HUD when wet” so when I get the pack and the HUD works
properly for me I know what happened in the fire or after washing.
Thank you for your assistance.
