Applied Dynamic Modeling
for Wastewater Treatment
Plant Efficiency
ENGRCEE X499 (3 units)
Through a combination of theory and case
study applications, the course provides
practical experience on how to apply
dynamic modeling simulators to
design/upgrade wastewater treatment
plants. Particular emphasis is placed on
making treatment facilities more efficient
from a resource utilization and recovery
standpoint. Application of field test results
to maximize energy efficiency in aeration
systems (e.g., off gas tests) and biogas
generation for energy production receives
particular attention. Modeling calibration
techniques are taught and implemented.
When: April 04, 2016 to June 12, 2016
weekly webinars on Tues. & Thurs.
7:30 – 8:30 PM
Where: OL – online
Fee: $695

Instructor:
Daniel Nolasco, has over 25 years of
engineering experience in applying dynamic
modeling techniques for design and
optimization of wastewater treatment plants.
Nolasco’s projects have received numerous
international awards, among them, a
nomination for the Governor General of
Canada Award. He has published over 100
technical papers in journals and conference
proceedings and has co-authored four books.
Nolasco is well known in the WWTP modeling
arena. His clarification/thickening model is
used in most wastewater treatment simulators,
has received over 500 citations, and is
considered by the International Water
Association as one of the “10 most significant
groundbreaking papers during the [past] 40
years” in Water Research. He has served at
the Board of Trustees of the Water
Environment Federation and is currently at the
Board of Directors of IWA.
Nolasco received a Civil Engineering Degree
from the University of Buenos Aires, a Master
in Environmental Engineering from McMaster
University, and a Master in Management of
Technology from MIT. He is currently a Water-
Energy Nexus Center Industrial Fellow, a
fellowship program exclusively for scholars
from industry spending resident time at UCI.
