1. IP – Intellectual Property
Serialised Original IP – Serialised original IP is something that has been created from scratch
(although often inspired by other peoples copyrighted work) and then built into a series.
An example of this is would be Mario which
was and still is extremely successful. Mario
did not start off as himself but actually
started out as ‘jump man’ in Donkey Kong
saving his girlfriend ‘Paula’ from his
mistreated monkey ‘Donkey Kong’ who like
Mario is still popular today. Mario started out like that
but has later been adapted to have his own films and
even a live-action TV show. There is also lots of Mario merchandise which is how quite a lot
of money is made and how it still manages to be hugely popular.
Franchised IP – Franchised IP is to give the right or privilege to somebody of a franchise that
has been created. Characters and settings that have been licensed can be given to
somebody to use but only the licensor can
give this to a licensee.
An example of this is Batman who had
graphic novels, animations, films and
merchandise before the game was created
and was popular but Batman has never
really died down in popularity
