Hang gliding is an air sport where a pilot flies a non-motorized, foot-launched glider called a hang glider. The equipment used includes a harness to suspend the pilot from the glider allowing freedom of movement, and a helmet to protect the pilot's head. In 2012, Australian Jonny Durand and American Dustin Martin worked together to break the 12-year-old hang gliding world distance record of 700km, flying for nearly 11 hours and finding thermals for lift.
