1. We Got Tired Of Our Waste
At Gramicci, we have a communal kitchen and one of the things you’ll
find in our cupboards is plastic cups. They are the big red kind you
drink from at picnics.Now, we have plenty of drinking glasses and
coffee mugs,but who wants to do the dishes? It’s easier to toss that
cup in the wastebasket and get back to work. So, finally we decided
to do something about it.
Doing our research we discovered LibertyBottleworks, a company
based in Union Gap, Washington. Locally hired employees carefully
manufacture the bottles with American made recycled and recyclable
aluminum that can endure any rigorous activity. The bottles are also
made with materials that are non-toxic and BPA-free.But what we
really liked about Liberty is their environmental stewardship. They
pledge 1% of their sales and 1% of their working hours to regional
and national environmental groups.
Gramicci employeesnow fill their Liberty bottles at the water cooler
instead of grabbing a plastic cup out of the cupboard.It might not
seem like a big deal, but every action we take to reduce waste makes
a difference.And for us, we had to start somewhere.
