National Fuel and their Marcellus Shale drilling subsidiary Seneca Resources issued their fiscal year second quarter results yesterday, which show a 57% increase in shale oil and gas production coming from the Marcellus region.
The U.S. Energy Information Administration's monthly Drilling Productivity Report for January 2015. The report shows expected production for shale oil and gas for the country's 7 largest shale plays. As in previous months, the Marcellus and Utica regions continue to expand their production rapidly.

A report titled "Baseline Groundwater Quality from 20 Domestic Wells in Sullivan County, Pennsylvania, 2012" published in June 2013 by the U.S. Geological Survey. The testing was done on water wells before any Marcellus Shale drilling and shows a significant number of the wells (7 of the 20) have naturally occurring methane in measurable quantities. Two of the 20 wells have elevated levels of natural methane.

OH Court Decision Striking Down Municipal Home Rule for Oil & Gas DrillingMarcellus Drilling News
The court decision from the Ohio Ninth Appeallate District Court in the case of Munroe Falls v Beck Energy in which the appeallate court says that local zoning regulations are preempted by the state's regulations when it comes to oil and gas drilling. Municipalities cannot prevent drilling based on their own zoning regulations. Certain local zoning laws still apply (road use, rights-of-way, etc.). This decision has major implications for Utica Shale drillers and for local municipalities.
The ruling from NY Supreme Court Judge Ferris Lebous that throws out a de facto moratorium passed by the City of Binghamton in December 2011. The judge said the Mayor and City Council did not have a sufficient legal basis to enact a moratorium. The case revolved around whether or not the law as passed was a moratorium. The judge ruled it was and threw it out.
