Young Business
Person, sponsored
by Suffolk New
College and West
Suffolk College
The Young Business Person of the
Year award is for individuals born
after July 9, 1980.
The judges were looking for
evidence of exceptional vision and
leadership, whether the entrant is
running his or her own business or is
operating in a managerial position
within a larger organisation.

and Care Services, Ipswich
Poppy Nursing and Care
Services, launched just a year
ago, by registered nurse Claire
Woodman and accountant Kelly-
Anne Byres, provides staff to
hospitals and care homes across
the UK.
It is already a stand out player
in the industry thanks to a fresh,
forward-thinking and focused
approach, and prides itself on
delivering the best quality care
from professionally trained and
sensitive staff.
The judges said: “While
juggling home life and an
accountancy business with
setting up a new business, Kelly-
Anne has seen fantastic results
from the first year of her
business.
“She has great vision and
ambition for the future growth
of the company and the
emphasis is on providing quality
staff and service. The team are
growing and Kelly-Anne is
involving them to ensure that
quality runs throughout the
company.”
KitCrew Camps offers fun, active
and educational school holiday
activity courses for children aged
from five to 16, at four venues in
and around Ipswich and
Colchester.
From rocket-making and archery
to swimming and cancing, offers
something for everybody, with the
aim of having a genuine impact on
the social development and well-
being of the next generation.
The judges said: “Chris a very
entrepreneurial person and not
content with a Masters in Maths he
moved to another country, the USA,
and set up a thriving soccer holiday
business that started with four
players and grew to 150.
“Now, with a business partner
here in Suffolk, he has built up
KitCrew Camps to be the “Best
Childcare Provider in the East” as
voted by the Netmums forum.”
Christopher Melsa, KitCrew Camps, Ipswich
Guy Taylor of The Granary Estates
is a farmer whose drive and ambi-
tion has led him to diversify the
business.
It now includes a thriving
weddings and events venue, based
on the conversion of historic but
redundant barns, and a gastro pub
in the local village.
The judges said: “We were struck
by the level of hard work, determi-
nation and vision that Guy has. He
is someone that has lots of ambi-
tion and does not stand still.
“In the last couple of years he
has started a new business, taken
on an established business with the
existing staff and expanded his
original contract farming
business.”
