Warangal. The Technical Association of Biotechnology was instrumental in honing the skills of
students and developing their all-round personality.
The highlights of the year 2013-2014 were Workshop on Flow Cytometry and a

session on DAAD WISE and IAS Internships. Because the number of interested students
was high and requests for seminars on other internship opportunities were flowing in.
TAB conducted a few more mentorship and interactive sessions on CPT, Khorana,
DAAD. These sessions were held by those who have done their internships through the
respective programs.
2. TAB Inaugural :
After the first TAB activity, it was followed by Inaugural function wherein chief guest
Prof. N. Rama Swamy officially introduced TAB 2013-2014 to the students of
Department of Biotechnology.
Fresher's Event for junior year students:
Then came the fun but very important Fresher’s event. Selection involved testing the
potential of the junior year in various ways like quiz, aptitude test, group discussions and
stress interviews. This event is important because it’s the first time that the newly
recruited Biotechnology students come to the department and interact with their seniors.
It’s the first step for building a strong Senior-Junior relationship.
Department Brochure:
The Department Brochure was printed. Vision & Mission of the department, prestigious
achievements by Biotechnology students and prospective career opportunities were
highlighted in the Brochure.
Information session on Graduate Studies abroad at TAMU & CPT Internship:
Achieving high degrees is something, but coming back and providing a platform for their
juniors is not what every alumnus thinks of doing. We are very thankful to Mr Rohit
Kongari, our alumnus form the first batch of the department, who has started a student
exchange program between Center for Phage Technology (CPT), Texas A &M University
and Department of Biotechnology, NIT Warangal. He came all the way from USA to
explain about postgraduate program in TAMU, the CPT Internship program. Not just that,
he also encouraged senior year students to come up with novel research proposals. As was
expected, his visit attracted a large number of junior, sophomore and senior year students.
Mock Placement sessions I & II:
For the very first time TAB started a mock placement session for sophomore students.
Realizing that they were not well prepared to face the aptitude tests and group discussions
conducted by the companies, senior year came up with a very resourceful plan of
educating the sophomore students about various things that come up during the selection
process by companies. Mock aptitude test was conducted as the first round and group
discussions were held to screen students further.
3. T-Shirt Design Competition:
A t-shirt design competition was held to make students come up with innovative designs
and tag lines for the Departmental t-shirt. Best design was selected and was given for
printing.
A session on how to prepare for GRE:
Seeing that there are many GRE aspirants in the Department. TAB organized a
information session on how to prepare for GRE. The speakers talked about GRE, its
syllabus and gave many useful tips to achieve top marks in the exam.
Technozion:
During the period of 27th
-29th
December, we organized the national level annual technical
fest, Technozion. It provided an excellent platform for students, both in campus and from
outside. We saw participation from colleges throughout the country.
Here are the list of events organized on behalf of the department:
o Lumos
o BioMimicry
o Dark Perception
o BioMazes
o Track the Past
Furaha (Biotech Sports Week):
Sports are an important part of life. They improve our concentration and teach us how to
work as a team. This year’s Bio-Sports is renamed as Furaha (Fun & Entertainment) did
just that and much more. There was a healthy competition between the four teams (A, T,
G & C) and also induced the much needed senior-junior relation.
Workshop on FlowCytometry:
One of the most important modern Biotechnology equipment is Flow Cytometer.
Whatever their research interest may be, flow cytometer is an indispensable instrument
for a Biotechnologist. TAB organized a session for students of all years to explain the
principle and working of flow cytometer.
Open House:
Open House session was held wherein first years from various departments came down to
the Biotechnology department to get to know it better. It is more of a ‘Who we are &
What we do’ type of an event. A brief introduction of the professors, curriculum,
prospective job opportunities, labs was given during the event.
4. Bio Quiz:
To test the general life science knowledge of students, a quiz was conducted. It was an
online event where the performance of students was assessed and scores were displayed
immediately.
Guest Lecture on Advancements in Genetic Engineering:
TAB had organized a guest lecture which was delivered by Dr. Satish Kumar, Chief
Scientist from CCMB, Dean NIAB. He focused mainly on the advancements in Genetic
Engineering.
Newsletter “The Word” launch:

The year ended with the valedictory function of TAB, where Prof. Singaracharya (Dean,
Kakatiya University) and Prof. S. Sreenivasa rao (Dean Student Affairs) addressed the
