Executive Search Case Study
Issue
The Chief Financial Officer of a leading multi-disciplined engineering and consulting
firm indicated he was considering retiring. After initially considering a search process
as an in-house project, the company’s leadership agreed to secure the assistance of an
executive search professional. The company’s HR Director reached out to Leslie Shaw
of EFL Associates, CBIZ’s Talent & Compensation Solution, based on prior successful
project work.
Solution
Employing the “Consult First, Search Second” approach, Leslie and her team set about
a process of internal interviews, including conversations with the leadership team.

Working through an extensive process of primary research, networking with prospects,
video and in-person interviews with the candidates, and robust conversations with
references, a final selection was made based on industry alignment, tenure, strategic

The company selected their new CFO from a well-qualified and thoroughly vetted
group of 15 candidates. The successful outcome was due to a number of criteria,
