Multiplying be Nines
There is a quick way to multiply by nine using your hands.
Here are the steps.
1. Hold your hands in front of you, either
palms facing up or down.
2. Count going left to right with your fingers.
3. If the problem is 9x2, you will hold down
the second finger from the left.
4. The finger that is held down acts as a
barrier. The number of fingers to the left of
the barrier are the tens. The number of
fingers to the right of the barrier are the
ones.
5. Put the tens and ones together and you
have your answer to the multiplication
problem with a nine.

Learn About Multiplication
Through Money!
*Use quarters for this to start out*
• Take 25x4 for example.
Four quarters is a
dollar, which is 100
cents. So 25x4=100.
• So, 25x3 would be
three quarters.
Three quarters is 75
cents. So 25x3=75.
• Then, 25x7 is seven quarters. 4
quarters makes a dollar, so 7-4=3.
3 quarters is 75 cents. Add a
dollar and 75 cents and the
answer is 175.
