2. As you can probably tell from the first paragraph, the tom yum is the star at Suan Thai. Still intent on
judging a book by its cover, I was immediately impressed by its deep red colour and the three large
prawns peeking out from its fiery depths. Fortunately, I'm pleased to report that it tasted as good as
it looked: the prawns were soft and generous, the flavour was complex and varied and the chilli was
enough to satisfy even the most hardcore of tom yum fans.
My partner had fish-cakes to start, which were equally impressive: lightly fried and filled with chunks
of fresh fish and potato. They were clearly home-made and almost filling enough to be a meal in
themselves. Suan Thai also delivered on the mains: a fragrant green curry and a phad thai packed
with peanuts. I'd go back for the tom yum though, as I said, it's an addictive substance and,
fortunately, Linden is much closer than Bangkok.
