Oceanside, NY – “Walking is man’s best medicine,” said ancient Greek physician Hippocrates, who is
regarded as the father of medicine.
South Nassau Communities Hospital staff and physicians, local civic and business leaders, and elected
officials agree with the historic Greek physician as they gathered to officially kickoff registration and a fund
raising drive for the hospital’s new 5K Walk for Cancer Care & Health Fair. Supported by Hewlett House and
the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce, the event will be held on Sunday, September 25th, with the walk in the
peaceful and pleasant neighborhood surrounding the hospital from 9 -10AM and the free Health Fair from 10AM
– 3PM outside and in the hospital’s Conference Center.
Park Avenue Extended Care in Long Beach is the naming sponsor of the 5K Walk for Cancer Care &
Health Fair, while Lynbrook Restorative Therapy & Nursing is serving as this year’s entertainment sponsor. All
funds raised through the walk and the health fair will support South Nassau’s Gertrude & Louis Feil Cancer
Center. To register to walk and/or create a walking team, go to www.crowdrise.com/SNCH5K.
Each walker this year is being asked to raise at least $100 via the Crowdrise website by finding five
sponsors to pledge at $20 each. Fundraising activities via Crowdrise are already underway. High school and
college students can fulfill public service requirements by participating in the walk and fundraising efforts.

Department of Surgery. “Our cancer specialists at South Nassau take a team approach to treating the disease and
we have some of the finest cancer experts on Long Island. We’re grateful for the community’s support.”
All funds raised at the 5K Walk for the Cancer Center will go directly toward assisting patients and
families impacted by the disease.
The Health Fair after the walk will feature fun activities for the whole family. Free flu shots will be
provided at the Health Fair to adults only, 18 years old or above on a first-come, first serve basis while supplies

residents who visit the health fair’s health and wellness displays set up by departments of the hospital or take
advantage of free health screenings for prostate cancer and cardiac risk factors including cholesterol, Body
Mass Index (BMI) and blood pressure.
From start to finish during the 5K walk and health fair, South Nassau’s main parking lot will be host to
live entertainment featuring local talent sponsored by the School of Rock in Rockville, marital arts
