1. How to Monitor Your Blood
Pressure
Highlights from an article put out by Pfizer, Inc
2. High blood pressure – sometimes called a
“silent killer”—often has no warning signs or
symptoms
This can be dangerous – untreated high blood
pressure may increase a person’s risk for stroke
and heart disease
That’s why regular blood pressure screenings
are so important.
WHY MEASURE BLOOD PRESSURE
3. CHECKING BLOOD PRESSURE

every 2 years

White coat hypertension

measured.

HOME

fits around the upper arm.
– Wrist and finger monitors are not
recommended.

the same time.
– Take 2 or 3 measurements, one minute apart.
– Record your measurements : share with your
healthcare provider!
7. A SUDDENLY ELEVATED BLOOD
PRESSURE
● Measure your blood pressure a few more times
– if it continues to remain elevated, contact your
healthcare provider.

than 180/120, wait 5 minutes and re-test.

immediately

9. QUESTIONS TO ASK YOUR PHYSICIAN
● How often should I monitor my blood pressure?

should I use?
● What lifestyle changes can I make to help
manage my blood pressure?
– The aggravation of lifestyle changes beats the
aggravation of med side-effects

– Better to take meds than suffer the
consequences of high blood pressure
down the line
