BPI group’s Executive Employment Trends Report offers visibility into the
current executive job market. We are committed to quality and results in
our career transition programs, and believe that keeping a careful eye on
trends in the market is an important way to ensure that we meet the
needs of our career transition clients. The findings of this report are
based on a survey of our executive clients who began their job search
from Q2 2016 through Q3 2017.
The Executive Employment Trends Report includes analysis of the
following executive employment trends:
– Average length of the executive job search
– How the length of the job search is impacted by various factors,
including:
• Base Salary Level
• Education Level
• Age

2017 Comes to a Strong Close in Executive Hiring

Hiring remains strong as 2017 comes to a close, with the overall national unemployment rate dipping to a 17-year
low of 4.1% in October. U.S. Department of Labor reports indicate that the labor market weathered this year’s
particularly difficult hurricane season better than expected.

Overall, demand for talent continues to be robust.
BPI group’s Executive Advisory Services clients landed new roles in an average of only 4.6 months in Q3—significantly
faster than the national average executive job search length of 7.3 months.

Our executive clients with a base salary
greater than $250k landed new roles in an average of just 4 months this quarter—reflecting continued strong demand
for senior executive talent. As this demand persists, our executive career transition consultants partner with our
clients to determine the best-fit role and organization for long-term career success, and to confidently negotiate
competitive compensation packages. Many of our executives reported receiving multiple offers during their job
search in Q3.

A significant 18% of executives decided to start their own business in Q3, up from 10%
in the previous quarter, an indicator of both confidence in the economy and our
executives understanding the value of their own expertise and experience. We also
expect to see a greater number of older executives exploring nontraditional roles or
transitioning to nonprofit, board, or part-time work, as the baby boomer generation
navigates retirement. Our consultants are experts at supporting senior executives as
they make these career and life decisions, and we are proud of the impressive results
they have achieved with our executive clients this quarter.

About the executives:
This report is based on survey responses from a
sample of BPI group’s Executive Advisory
Services clients, representing 66% men and 34%
women.
All executives surveyed began and completed
their transition with BPI group between Q2 2016
and Q3 2017.

Length of Job Search
Executives spent an average of 4.6 months in the job search. This was significantly less time than
the national average of 7.3 months for those in executive roles, and 6.2 months for the general
U.S. workforce, as reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics in October.
Salary at the new job:
• 54% rated the compensation at their new job as
better than that of their previous job
• 17% rated the compensation at their new job as
the same as that of their previous job
• 29% rated the compensation at their new job as
less than that of their previous job

an average of 4.7 months. The executives with some college experience (3%) landed the fastest this quarter with

The findings of this report are based on a survey of our executive clients who began their job search from Q2 2016 through Q3 2017.   • 3. 2017 Comes to a Strong Close in Executive Hiring ©2017 BPI group – Confidential Hiring remains strong as 2017 comes to a close, with the overall national unemployment rate dipping to a 17-year low of 4.1% in October. U.S. Department of Labor reports indicate that the labor market weathered this year’s particularly difficult hurricane season better than expected. 1 Overall, demand for talent continues to be robust. BPI group’s Executive Advisory Services clients landed new roles in an average of only 4.6 months in Q3—significantly faster than the national average executive job search length of 7.3 months. 2 Our executive clients with a base salary greater than $250k landed new roles in an average of just 4 months this quarter—reflecting continued strong demand for senior executive talent. As this demand persists, our executive career transition consultants partner with our clients to determine the best-fit role and organization for long-term career success, and to confidently negotiate competitive compensation packages. Many of our executives reported receiving multiple offers during their job search in Q3. We also expect to see a greater number of older executives exploring nontraditional roles or transitioning to nonprofit, board, or part-time work, as the baby boomer generation navigates retirement. All executives surveyed began and completed their transition with BPI group between Q2 2016 and Q3 2017. This was significantly less time than the national average of 7.3 months for those in executive roles, and 6.2 months for the general U.S. workforce, as reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics in October.
