Thank you so much for the great opportunity to be involved in
this course. As a Nurse it will benefit me to have better
understanding and wide knowledge with regards to caring for
the diabetes patient and even with my family members who
have diabetes. Hopefully, in the future, you still can run with
this kind of course that can be accessible to all nurses.
4.5 Stars given by
NADC users
This course is very helpful and valuable to my practice. The
course covered everything, easy to understand, and very
detailed.
The course was very interesting and I learned a lot about DM, it
enhanced my knowledge further in understanding about this
chronic disease that is commonly encounter by many
Australians. I highly recommend it to all the interested
healthcare workers.
The course is very helpful and interesting, and really going to
help with my nursing profession. Thank you so much for

39. GUIDELINES FOR INSULIN SAFETY 2021 - 2022
Guidelines for the safe
prescribing and administration
of insulin in inpatient hospital
settings
40. GUIDELINES 2021 - 2022
As a result of these findings, the following preliminary
recommendations will be expanded on and published to guide
the safe and effective prescribing and administration of insulin:
• For handwritten insulin prescribing, implementing dedicated insulin prescription charts with pre-
printed “units”
• For electronic insulin prescribing, creating insulin order sets
• The use of insulin pen needle safety devices
• Education of junior medical and nursing staff regarding the general purposes of basal, bolus, pre-
mixed and supplemental sliding scale insulin to decrease the likelihood that the wrong type of
insulin is prescribed or administered
• Education of junior medical staff regarding safer prescribing practices including eligible
handwriting and writing out “units” and “subcut” in full
