Exploring Agricultural Education

Course Purpose: This co-curriculum course is designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of
FFA (National FFA Organization), agriculture, and its many facets. Students will be involved in all three
aspects of Agricultural Education: Instruction, FFA, and Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE)
programs.
Course Materials:
• Students will need the following items:
o Lined paper
o Writing Utensil (Pencil / Pen)
*** A folder will be provided for each student and left in the classroom.
Course Description:
Exploring Agricultural Education analyzes the different aspects of the agricultural industry. We will
cover a wide range of topics within agriculture and focus on the Georgia agricultural industry and its
importance in our daily lives.
The information in this course will be given through presentations and not taking, group and
individual projects, in-class presentations and hands-on activities.
Some topics covered in this class include:
• Agricultural Education and FFA
• Introduction to Agriculture
• Horticulture
• Animal Science
Classroom Policies:
• Be on time, on task, and prepared to learn and participate EVERYDAY!
• Keep all personal electronics put away, unless asked to bring them out.
• Be responsible for your own learning. Ask questions and participate!
• Respect the teacher, the classroom, and other students.
• Clean up after yourself.
• Follow all school policies outlined in the student handbook
Consequences:
• These procedures are ultimately up to the discretion of the teacher and the
administration, depending on the severity of the infraction.

Make-Up Work
• Students will be allowed 3 days for each day absent to make-up work missed due to
absences. It is the students’ responsibility to make-up missed work.
Course Grading Scale:
A = 90 – 100 B = 80 – 89.9 C = 70 – 79.9 F = 69.9 – Below
Quizzes / Daily Assignments.......................................................................10 percent
Participation/Bell ringers..............................................................................10 percent
Tests…………...............................................................................…………20 percent
Projects…………………………………………………………………………………………………………...

SAE Project.................................................................................................40 percent
SAE Project
Each student is required to complete 10 hours of agriculture related activities outside of the school
day. This is called the Supervised Agricultural Experience, or the SAE. These activities must be
documented on the SAE Packet (given by Ms. Sapp) and should include at least two pictures of the
student working. Detailed info will be given in class.
SAEs can be anything related to agriculture, like the following examples:
• Starting a garden at home or at school
• Woodworking or repairing equipment
• Raising or caring for animals
• Landscaping around home or community
• Community service projects
• Other projects approved by Ms. Sapp

I agree to allow my child’s photograph to be published by Ms. Ashley Sapp in the newspaper,
program website, and other materials for the purpose of promoting the agriculture program and student
achievements.
I do not wish for my child’s photo to be used in any publication by/for the agriculture program at
