The Appalachian School of Technologies and Arts (ASTA) bridges folk, proven, and emerging technologies and arts. ASTA engages folk arts and folk technologies not as unchangeable relics, but as living and changing expressions and practices that enrich our collective capabilities, especially community-based and community-serving innovation. ASTA serves as an incubator and educational center for folk, proven, and emerging technologies and arts as modes of expression for traditional and new technological and artistic identities. With Appalachia as its locus, ASTA teaches and engages with folk, proven, and emerging technologies and arts from around the world.
