Executive Summary
Indagine Surveyors (IND) serves to provide homeowners and builders with exceptional
surveying expertise in providing application permits for building projects in Victoria,
Australia.
Similarly, the primary objective of IND is to be a competitive player in the construction
market and intends to improve their online sales and information documentation systems to
enable the company to realize substantial sales growth in order to achieve future financ ial
objectives.
However, IND is facing crippling issues that would affect the company’s growth in the
industry, among the issues faced were the efficiency of approving permits which would be
subjected to multiple rejections and would result in delays spanning over six weeks. Moreover,
frustrating issues such as the loss of important documentation, minimal online exposure,
outdated processing and lack of customer service had prevented IND to reach its maximum
potential in company growth.
Therefore, IND has decided to implement an overall update on all aspects of the
business by implementing a new and improved documentation system to enhance the company
forecasting, upgrading the company website to increase its online traffic by making it friendly
to mobile devices as well as constantly updating its content. Similarly, the company would
seek to improve its security to avoid compromising important data. Finally, IND has decided
to improve efficiency and gain a competitive advantage in the industry by implementing a
newly improved Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system that would enable staff to tailor
new programs according to their needs with the expertise of system programmers. With all
changes in effect, IND would prove itself to achieve all financial objectives in mind while
providing through its new customer-oriented mission.

1.0 Introduction
1.1 Purpose
The purpose of this report was to forecast growth, decline, improve application permit
processing and operational information documentation in Indagine Surveyors (IND).
1.2 Method
The information obtained in the report was collected by referring to the fee inflation and
application growth percentages of the country and forecasting future outcomes through
Microsoft Excel.
1.3 Assumptions
It is assumed that a pivot table and pivot chart is required to display information to non-
technical users and clients. Therefore, the Microsoft Office software would be installed in
company computers to ensure training staff have access to Microsoft Excel. This would
empower staff to utilize Microsoft Excel for forecasting future projections and solve
complicated calculations.
Furthermore, the implementation of a new permit application process system would improve
productivity, reduce delays for the company and its clients.
1.4 Background
The Indagine Surveyors (IND) company is responsible for issuing building permits, sewerage
and waste disposal permits, and road access permits for building projects in Victoria, Australia.
Currently, Indagine Surveyors (IND) is suffering from a processing issue which had affected
its ability to satisfy permit application approval demands and the reviewing process needs to
be refurbished to avoid delays. Due to the heavy demands and internal issues, IND general
manager, Mr. Martin Krowski is given the task of making strategic decisions based on future
projections.

2.0 BODY
2.0 PORTERS FIVE FORCES MODEL
Figure 1: ‘Porter’s Competitive Five Forces Model
2.1 Analysis of Buyer Power
Based on Porter’s competitive five forces model, Jim Wilkinson of “The Strategic
CFO” suggests that buyer power refers to the pressure consumers can exert on businesses to
attain higher quality products, lower prices and better customer service. Similarly, the analysis
of bargaining power of buyer would be in perspective of the seller.
Based on these circumstances, Indagine Surveyors (IND) are responsible in improving
their customer service as the company lacks the efficiency in providing applicant permits
within a reasonable time. Consequently, there is an evidence in the pivot that buyer purchases
vary upon volume where purchases of building applications are higher than those that are of
the health and road purchases but overall volume of purchase is low. Additionally, there is also
evidence that buyer purchases comprises of small portion of seller offerings such as a total
purchase of only 48 applications, this would mean that buyer power is rather low considering
the low volume of purchase.
In addition, it is also noticeable that there are limited substitutes in the market that
would satisfy the demand of building application permits and therefore there is a small threat
5
of substitution in the market. Hence, buyer power would also be weak based on this criterion.
Furthermore, there is evidence that buyers are not price sensitive about the products as there is
a high purchase of building permit applications in spite of the fact that it would cost from
$1,100 - $2,300 per application. Therefore, evidence from the revenue chart suggests that buyer
power is low due to the lack of substitution, lack of price sensitivity, low volume purchase and
differentiated product (Wilkinson 2013).
Figure 2: 2015 Revenue by Applicant Chart
2.2 Risk Analysis
The analysis of buyer power and the case study shows that Indagine Surveyors (IND) would
potentially lose customers if they maintain their current inefficiency on its permit processing.
Moreover, the unnecessary delays which span for six weeks would upset customers and would
reduce the competitive edge of the company. Furthermore, IND would need to improve their
website interface and marketing as well as displaying queries made by customers through
forum pages or Q&A communities as their traditional method of word of mouth would deem
their company as obsolete and customers would have sought after other means in the long run.

3.0 KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT & BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE (BI)
3.1 The importance of knowledge management and the purpose of BI.
The systematic process of knowledge management (KM) is to capture, select, store and
allocate information to the entire organization in order to increase productivity, reduce
duplication and create more unique and creative products and services to meet various
consumers’ taste and preference (Mohsen, Ali & Jalal 2011, p. 130). Furthermore, it will help
the organization to improve their strategic planning, problem solving skills and decision-
making (Herschel & Jones 2005, p. 45).
Nevertheless, the significant factors that drives KM are organizational continuation or
endurance, competitive advantage and distinction, globalization effects and aging labour pool.
Undeniable, KM is important to cope up with consumers’ demands and increase competitive
advantage from its competitors. It is significant to improve organization’s performance,
productivity and product differentiation from the competitors (Omotayo 2015, p. 11).
On the other hand, Business Information (BI) carries the same purpose with different
precedent point, as BI is utilized as better decision-making choice through utilizing data
warehousing and online analytical processing system (OLAP). Relevant information will be
collected in data warehousing into a depository to organize and certify data for achieving
objectives. Then, the most relevant data will be extracted, transform and loaded through data
warehouse’s transferable system. The most important process in BI is data cleansing
differences in data arrangement and values from dissimilar transferable system will be
concluded. Thus, through BI with enormous data warehouses us capable to hold tens of
terabytes of data. While problem-specific and lower data frequently only hold up to ten to a
hundred gigabytes (Herschel & Jones 2005, p. 46).
Based on the case study, there seems to be an issue regarding Business Information (BI)
in the company where required operational information is not documented due to cancellation
of reviews and would cause required work results from earlier reviews to be lost. As a result,
key information would only be known to only several senior employees rather than the
company as a whole and would affect the organizations performance.
3.2 Inflation and Growth Forecast
7
Figure 3: Department Revenue Projections spanning from 2015 – 2017 under new Inflation
Rate and Application Growth Rate.
Figure 4: New Forecasted Sensitivity Table.
Based on the new forecasted sensitivity table, the new predicted sensitivity table shows
that as there is a rise in inflation, a decline in application growth rate would follow and therefore
resulted in a lower number of applications due to its higher fee. Similarly, a comparison of the
new forecasts compared to the initial forecasts shows that the department revenue would be
lower as the inflation rate would increase prices and reduce the number of applications and the
increased fees would cause a loss of revenue due to the lack of applications. For example, the
initial forecast shows that the total revenue of the year 2017 is $31,714.18 with a total number
of 43 applicants and an excellent revenue status throughout the fiscal year but according to the
new projections, the total revenue is $28,245.02 with a total number of 31 applicants with a
revenue status under good rather than excellent. Evidently, this is caused by the ratio
percentage of fee inflation rate and application growth rate, as the initial projection shows that
the inflation rate as 5% while there is a decline of 10% percent in application growth whereas
the new projection assumes an inflation rate of 20% with a 20% decline in application growth.
Moreover, the company’s revenue is following an upward trend yearly in revenue with the new
sensitivity table but is suffering a decline in applications as compared to the consistency in the
Fee Inflation Rate 20%
Application Growth Rate -20%
New Sensitivity Table 1
8
initial sensitivity table. Therefore, department revenue is heavily reliant on the stability of
application growth amidst increasing inflation rates to project higher number of applications
and stable prices.
4.0 WEBSITE AND SOCIAL MEDIA
4.1.1 Barriers IND may encounter when trying to use websites for marketing their
services and receiving payment.

The barrier of social media marketing is the fact that using social media tools in
advertising, services and payment could be risky, which may damage the company’s brand
image (Bainchi & Andrews 2015, p. 2556). Nonetheless, IND may face difficulties and barriers
by utilizing social media services, as social media communication can be unpredictable due to
different culture carries different online slangs from consumers. IND might face issues in
delivering their messages responsibly without offending the multi-cultural consumers globally
(Washenko 2015).
Whereas, social media activities’ effectiveness would be one of the difficulties faced by social
media marketers. This is because social media marketers in IND may have issues in
interpreting proper sense in gathered data, and proper actions to be taken upon the collected
data. Furthermore, brand image is difficult to control while securing each social media account
(Bennett 2014). Additionally, it is also not easy to convert followers to loyal customers in
IND’s website (Bullas 2010).
Risks and issues in social media transaction would be security liability faced by
consumer in social media payment that can be made through both online websites and mobile
devices such as applications. Undeniable, it increases consumers’ vulnerabilities and higher
possibility of fraudsters’ intrusion (Kanyaru & Kyalo 2015, p. 5). In contrast, organization
might product or performance risk that is referred as the failing of product to meet required
performance. For instant, products sold in websites did not meet consumers’ expectation due
to the fact customers are unable to physically analyse and view the products. This is more likely
to have negatively affect consumers’ online buying desire (Dai, Forsythe & Kwon 2014, p. 15).
9
4.1.2 Difficulties IND is facing with its current website
The website of Indagine Surveyors (IND) contains minimal content such as contact
details, permit types and fees. Similarly, the lack of information would make it seem as if IND
does not produce any new content. In addition, although IND receives enquiries from potential
clients through their website, the company pays limited attention to the enquires as it is not
documented and would reduce the competitive advantage of the company. Therefore, this
would cause minimal web traffic of the company as they rely solely on word of mouth rather
than marketing through the web.
4.2.1 Web traffic and Website Success
Web traffic is considered as a pride metric, while it does not necessary shows a
company’s website’s success and its reputation. This is because most marketers believe higher
numbers of traffic shows a better establishment and successful, that lead to an ignore towards
the percentage of conversion (Patel 2014). As conversion rates of a company is defined as
percentage of proposed consumers whom takes definite desired behaviours by the organization,
such as visitors, buyers, callers, loyal customers, loyal viewers, subscribers, and consumers
that subscribes to newsletters (Lavinsky 2014).
4.2.2 Recommendation on IND website Improvement
IND can improve its website through designing a reactive design website. This is
because a mobile-friendly designed website will increase the interest of both loyal and new
visitors to IND’s website, as mobile-friendly websites are usually responsive (Shaoolian 2014).
Additionally, irrelevant commercials should be removed from the webpage in order to not
distract users propose to visit IND’s website (Sweney 2013). At the same time, IND’s
marketers should focus on uploading fresh new contents and concise messages. Providing new
contents increase individuals interest as it does not bore them, while concise messages in IND’s
website will be able to increase consumers’ buying interest through messages like “Special
offer!” or “Free Shipping if you Shop Now!” (Shaoolian 2014). Thus, with these tactics,
organization will be able to attain and attract customers to purchase goods from IND, which
leads to an enhancement of organization’s financial success. Furthermore, this will also bring
more satisfied customers through increasing consumer referrals. By developing 1 or more
10
verified criterion system for IND is capable to have a positive impact on the organization’s
sales (10 Tips to Increase Profits in Your Business 2016).
5.0 SECURITY AND MOBILITY
5.1 Internal and External Threats to the Security of IND company Data
5.1.1. Internal Threats
An example of an internal threat to security of IND company data are careless employees,
employees in IND are at risk of leaking data to outside sources if they are not careful with their
online usage (Schiff 2015). In addition, disgruntled and technically proficient employees would
pose as an internal threat to company databases with malicious cyberattacks through abusing
their privileges (Whittle 2008).
5.1.2. External Threats
The most crucial external security threat to companies are viruses which according to a DTI
survey, accounts to 72% of all companies’ attacks on external threats such as infected files or
e-mails (Vernon 2004). Additionally, hacks have become considerably smarter and poses as a
threat to companies by stealing classified data from blueprints to passwords through a new
hacking application called the SQL Injection (Vernon 2004).
5.2 Recommendation for IND to Secure Data from Threats
5.2.1 Recommendation for Internal Threat Security Solution
Internal security issues such as employee carelessness can be resolved by training employees
to practice managing passwords and to identify activities of scammers such as phishing (Schiff
2015). Additionally, companies are responsible for monitoring the well-being of employees,
be vigilant about disgruntled employees and cancelling employee privileges such as network
access and passwords once an employee resigns from work (Whittle 2008).
5.2.2 Recommendation for External Threat Security Solution
The primary response on how a company could protect itself from are to implement anti-virus
patches and firewalls as standard to defend itself against viruses. Additionally, adding multiple
layers of security would protect a companies’ database adequately by firstly scanning IT
systems for suspect activities with intrusion prevention technology. Secondly, integrated
11
defences with second layer would be useful to prevent back door entry by viruses and finally
by using a good risk assessment suited for the businesses and its calculations.
6.0 SYSTEM CUSTOMISATION
6.1 In House Time and Attendance System Advantages
Developing in house would allow the business to configure their business according to their
ideals and allow it to perform in their own way (Reeves n.d.). Similarly, the relationship
between the software team and staff members would allow the software to be built as expected
and differentiate from their competitors (Setende 2012).
6.2 Off-The-Shelf Time and Attendance Application and Outsourcing Custom
Development Advantages
Outsourcing provides a significant benefit as this allows companies to select a system that
would work best for each functional area to provide every need. Similarly, outsourcing custom
development would allow the company to remain in control rather than allowing the program
provider to have jurisdiction over the system as well as saving time and cost as compared to
the In-House system (Reeves n.d).
6.3 Recommendation
Among the two, the most ideal system would then be selecting an off-the-shelf time and
attendance system and then outsourcing custom development as it is cheaper than the in house
system, training would be provided by the ERP solution providers, it would take less time to
build and it allows flexibility for the company to remain in control with the system while
tailoring it to fit their needs.
12
7.0 CONCLUSION
The findings show that Indagine Surveyors (IND) would benefit greatly from improving its
operational information documentation which has been causing significant delays in
application permits. The act of improving their online platform would also aid in gaining new
clients by responding to enquiries as well as improving security measures to protect sensitive
data within their websites. Although, updating the tracking system through third party sources
and then customizing it for personal preference would improve monitoring location would be
expensive, but it would be more affordable than developing one in house and would allow
Indagine Surveyors (IND) to improve productivity in the long run.
In the light of these results, it is suggested for Indagine Surveyors (IND) to start implementing
overall improvements in order to gain a competitive edge within the construction industry.

Angelina's Assignment Complete (17 May)

  • 1. 1 Executive Summary Indagine Surveyors (IND) serves to provide homeowners and builders with exceptional surveying expertise in providing application permits for building projects in Victoria, Australia. Similarly, the primary objective of IND is to be a competitive player in the construction market and intends to improve their online sales and information documentation systems to enable the company to realize substantial sales growth in order to achieve future financ ial objectives. However, IND is facing crippling issues that would affect the company’s growth in the industry, among the issues faced were the efficiency of approving permits which would be subjected to multiple rejections and would result in delays spanning over six weeks. Moreover, frustrating issues such as the loss of important documentation, minimal online exposure, outdated processing and lack of customer service had prevented IND to reach its maximum potential in company growth. Therefore, IND has decided to implement an overall update on all aspects of the business by implementing a new and improved documentation system to enhance the company forecasting, upgrading the company website to increase its online traffic by making it friendly to mobile devices as well as constantly updating its content. Similarly, the company would seek to improve its security to avoid compromising important data. Finally, IND has decided to improve efficiency and gain a competitive advantage in the industry by implementing a newly improved Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system that would enable staff to tailor new programs according to their needs with the expertise of system programmers. With all changes in effect, IND would prove itself to achieve all financial objectives in mind while providing through its new customer-oriented mission.

  • 3. 3 1.0 Introduction 1.1 Purpose The purpose of this report was to forecast growth, decline, improve application permit processing and operational information documentation in Indagine Surveyors (IND). 1.2 Method The information obtained in the report was collected by referring to the fee inflation and application growth percentages of the country and forecasting future outcomes through Microsoft Excel. 1.3 Assumptions It is assumed that a pivot table and pivot chart is required to display information to non- technical users and clients. Therefore, the Microsoft Office software would be installed in company computers to ensure training staff have access to Microsoft Excel. This would empower staff to utilize Microsoft Excel for forecasting future projections and solve complicated calculations. Furthermore, the implementation of a new permit application process system would improve productivity, reduce delays for the company and its clients. 1.4 Background The Indagine Surveyors (IND) company is responsible for issuing building permits, sewerage and waste disposal permits, and road access permits for building projects in Victoria, Australia. Currently, Indagine Surveyors (IND) is suffering from a processing issue which had affected its ability to satisfy permit application approval demands and the reviewing process needs to be refurbished to avoid delays. Due to the heavy demands and internal issues, IND general manager, Mr. Martin Krowski is given the task of making strategic decisions based on future projections.
  • 4. 4 2.0 BODY 2.0 PORTERS FIVE FORCES MODEL Figure 1: ‘Porter’s Competitive Five Forces Model 2.1 Analysis of Buyer Power Based on Porter’s competitive five forces model, Jim Wilkinson of “The Strategic CFO” suggests that buyer power refers to the pressure consumers can exert on businesses to attain higher quality products, lower prices and better customer service. Similarly, the analysis of bargaining power of buyer would be in perspective of the seller. Based on these circumstances, Indagine Surveyors (IND) are responsible in improving their customer service as the company lacks the efficiency in providing applicant permits within a reasonable time. Consequently, there is an evidence in the pivot that buyer purchases vary upon volume where purchases of building applications are higher than those that are of the health and road purchases but overall volume of purchase is low. Additionally, there is also evidence that buyer purchases comprises of small portion of seller offerings such as a total purchase of only 48 applications, this would mean that buyer power is rather low considering the low volume of purchase. In addition, it is also noticeable that there are limited substitutes in the market that would satisfy the demand of building application permits and therefore there is a small threat
  • 5. 5 of substitution in the market. Hence, buyer power would also be weak based on this criterion. Furthermore, there is evidence that buyers are not price sensitive about the products as there is a high purchase of building permit applications in spite of the fact that it would cost from $1,100 - $2,300 per application. Therefore, evidence from the revenue chart suggests that buyer power is low due to the lack of substitution, lack of price sensitivity, low volume purchase and differentiated product (Wilkinson 2013). Figure 2: 2015 Revenue by Applicant Chart 2.2 Risk Analysis The analysis of buyer power and the case study shows that Indagine Surveyors (IND) would potentially lose customers if they maintain their current inefficiency on its permit processing. Moreover, the unnecessary delays which span for six weeks would upset customers and would reduce the competitive edge of the company. Furthermore, IND would need to improve their website interface and marketing as well as displaying queries made by customers through forum pages or Q&A communities as their traditional method of word of mouth would deem their company as obsolete and customers would have sought after other means in the long run.
  • 6. 6 3.0 KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT & BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE (BI) 3.1 The importance of knowledge management and the purpose of BI. The systematic process of knowledge management (KM) is to capture, select, store and allocate information to the entire organization in order to increase productivity, reduce duplication and create more unique and creative products and services to meet various consumers’ taste and preference (Mohsen, Ali & Jalal 2011, p. 130). Furthermore, it will help the organization to improve their strategic planning, problem solving skills and decision- making (Herschel & Jones 2005, p. 45). Nevertheless, the significant factors that drives KM are organizational continuation or endurance, competitive advantage and distinction, globalization effects and aging labour pool. Undeniable, KM is important to cope up with consumers’ demands and increase competitive advantage from its competitors. It is significant to improve organization’s performance, productivity and product differentiation from the competitors (Omotayo 2015, p. 11). On the other hand, Business Information (BI) carries the same purpose with different precedent point, as BI is utilized as better decision-making choice through utilizing data warehousing and online analytical processing system (OLAP). Relevant information will be collected in data warehousing into a depository to organize and certify data for achieving objectives. Then, the most relevant data will be extracted, transform and loaded through data warehouse’s transferable system. The most important process in BI is data cleansing differences in data arrangement and values from dissimilar transferable system will be concluded. Thus, through BI with enormous data warehouses us capable to hold tens of terabytes of data. While problem-specific and lower data frequently only hold up to ten to a hundred gigabytes (Herschel & Jones 2005, p. 46). Based on the case study, there seems to be an issue regarding Business Information (BI) in the company where required operational information is not documented due to cancellation of reviews and would cause required work results from earlier reviews to be lost. As a result, key information would only be known to only several senior employees rather than the company as a whole and would affect the organizations performance. 3.2 Inflation and Growth Forecast
  • 7. 7 Figure 3: Department Revenue Projections spanning from 2015 – 2017 under new Inflation Rate and Application Growth Rate. Figure 4: New Forecasted Sensitivity Table. Based on the new forecasted sensitivity table, the new predicted sensitivity table shows that as there is a rise in inflation, a decline in application growth rate would follow and therefore resulted in a lower number of applications due to its higher fee. Similarly, a comparison of the new forecasts compared to the initial forecasts shows that the department revenue would be lower as the inflation rate would increase prices and reduce the number of applications and the increased fees would cause a loss of revenue due to the lack of applications. For example, the initial forecast shows that the total revenue of the year 2017 is $31,714.18 with a total number of 43 applicants and an excellent revenue status throughout the fiscal year but according to the new projections, the total revenue is $28,245.02 with a total number of 31 applicants with a revenue status under good rather than excellent. Evidently, this is caused by the ratio percentage of fee inflation rate and application growth rate, as the initial projection shows that the inflation rate as 5% while there is a decline of 10% percent in application growth whereas the new projection assumes an inflation rate of 20% with a 20% decline in application growth. Moreover, the company’s revenue is following an upward trend yearly in revenue with the new sensitivity table but is suffering a decline in applications as compared to the consistency in the Fee Inflation Rate 20% Application Growth Rate -20% New Sensitivity Table 1
  • 8. 8 initial sensitivity table. Therefore, department revenue is heavily reliant on the stability of application growth amidst increasing inflation rates to project higher number of applications and stable prices. 4.0 WEBSITE AND SOCIAL MEDIA 4.1.1 Barriers IND may encounter when trying to use websites for marketing their services and receiving payment.
The barrier of social media marketing is the fact that using social media tools in advertising, services and payment could be risky, which may damage the company’s brand image (Bainchi & Andrews 2015, p. 2556). Nonetheless, IND may face difficulties and barriers by utilizing social media services, as social media communication can be unpredictable due to different culture carries different online slangs from consumers. IND might face issues in delivering their messages responsibly without offending the multi-cultural consumers globally (Washenko 2015). Whereas, social media activities’ effectiveness would be one of the difficulties faced by social media marketers. This is because social media marketers in IND may have issues in interpreting proper sense in gathered data, and proper actions to be taken upon the collected data. Furthermore, brand image is difficult to control while securing each social media account (Bennett 2014). Additionally, it is also not easy to convert followers to loyal customers in IND’s website (Bullas 2010). Risks and issues in social media transaction would be security liability faced by consumer in social media payment that can be made through both online websites and mobile devices such as applications. Undeniable, it increases consumers’ vulnerabilities and higher possibility of fraudsters’ intrusion (Kanyaru & Kyalo 2015, p. 5). In contrast, organization might product or performance risk that is referred as the failing of product to meet required performance. For instant, products sold in websites did not meet consumers’ expectation due to the fact customers are unable to physically analyse and view the products. This is more likely to have negatively affect consumers’ online buying desire (Dai, Forsythe & Kwon 2014, p. 15).
  • 9. 9 4.1.2 Difficulties IND is facing with its current website The website of Indagine Surveyors (IND) contains minimal content such as contact details, permit types and fees. Similarly, the lack of information would make it seem as if IND does not produce any new content. In addition, although IND receives enquiries from potential clients through their website, the company pays limited attention to the enquires as it is not documented and would reduce the competitive advantage of the company. Therefore, this would cause minimal web traffic of the company as they rely solely on word of mouth rather than marketing through the web. 4.2.1 Web traffic and Website Success Web traffic is considered as a pride metric, while it does not necessary shows a company’s website’s success and its reputation. This is because most marketers believe higher numbers of traffic shows a better establishment and successful, that lead to an ignore towards the percentage of conversion (Patel 2014). As conversion rates of a company is defined as percentage of proposed consumers whom takes definite desired behaviours by the organization, such as visitors, buyers, callers, loyal customers, loyal viewers, subscribers, and consumers that subscribes to newsletters (Lavinsky 2014). 4.2.2 Recommendation on IND website Improvement IND can improve its website through designing a reactive design website. This is because a mobile-friendly designed website will increase the interest of both loyal and new visitors to IND’s website, as mobile-friendly websites are usually responsive (Shaoolian 2014). Additionally, irrelevant commercials should be removed from the webpage in order to not distract users propose to visit IND’s website (Sweney 2013). At the same time, IND’s marketers should focus on uploading fresh new contents and concise messages. Providing new contents increase individuals interest as it does not bore them, while concise messages in IND’s website will be able to increase consumers’ buying interest through messages like “Special offer!” or “Free Shipping if you Shop Now!” (Shaoolian 2014). Thus, with these tactics, organization will be able to attain and attract customers to purchase goods from IND, which leads to an enhancement of organization’s financial success. Furthermore, this will also bring more satisfied customers through increasing consumer referrals. By developing 1 or more
  • 10. 10 verified criterion system for IND is capable to have a positive impact on the organization’s sales (10 Tips to Increase Profits in Your Business 2016). 5.0 SECURITY AND MOBILITY 5.1 Internal and External Threats to the Security of IND company Data 5.1.1. Internal Threats An example of an internal threat to security of IND company data are careless employees, employees in IND are at risk of leaking data to outside sources if they are not careful with their online usage (Schiff 2015). In addition, disgruntled and technically proficient employees would pose as an internal threat to company databases with malicious cyberattacks through abusing their privileges (Whittle 2008). 5.1.2. External Threats The most crucial external security threat to companies are viruses which according to a DTI survey, accounts to 72% of all companies’ attacks on external threats such as infected files or e-mails (Vernon 2004). Additionally, hacks have become considerably smarter and poses as a threat to companies by stealing classified data from blueprints to passwords through a new hacking application called the SQL Injection (Vernon 2004). 5.2 Recommendation for IND to Secure Data from Threats 5.2.1 Recommendation for Internal Threat Security Solution Internal security issues such as employee carelessness can be resolved by training employees to practice managing passwords and to identify activities of scammers such as phishing (Schiff 2015). Additionally, companies are responsible for monitoring the well-being of employees, be vigilant about disgruntled employees and cancelling employee privileges such as network access and passwords once an employee resigns from work (Whittle 2008). 5.2.2 Recommendation for External Threat Security Solution The primary response on how a company could protect itself from are to implement anti-virus patches and firewalls as standard to defend itself against viruses. Additionally, adding multiple layers of security would protect a companies’ database adequately by firstly scanning IT systems for suspect activities with intrusion prevention technology. Secondly, integrated
  • 11. 11 defences with second layer would be useful to prevent back door entry by viruses and finally by using a good risk assessment suited for the businesses and its calculations. 6.0 SYSTEM CUSTOMISATION 6.1 In House Time and Attendance System Advantages Developing in house would allow the business to configure their business according to their ideals and allow it to perform in their own way (Reeves n.d.). Similarly, the relationship between the software team and staff members would allow the software to be built as expected and differentiate from their competitors (Setende 2012). 6.2 Off-The-Shelf Time and Attendance Application and Outsourcing Custom Development Advantages Outsourcing provides a significant benefit as this allows companies to select a system that would work best for each functional area to provide every need. Similarly, outsourcing custom development would allow the company to remain in control rather than allowing the program provider to have jurisdiction over the system as well as saving time and cost as compared to the In-House system (Reeves n.d). 6.3 Recommendation Among the two, the most ideal system would then be selecting an off-the-shelf time and attendance system and then outsourcing custom development as it is cheaper than the in house system, training would be provided by the ERP solution providers, it would take less time to build and it allows flexibility for the company to remain in control with the system while tailoring it to fit their needs.
  • 12. 12 7.0 CONCLUSION The findings show that Indagine Surveyors (IND) would benefit greatly from improving its operational information documentation which has been causing significant delays in application permits. The act of improving their online platform would also aid in gaining new clients by responding to enquiries as well as improving security measures to protect sensitive data within their websites. Although, updating the tracking system through third party sources and then customizing it for personal preference would improve monitoring location would be expensive, but it would be more affordable than developing one in house and would allow Indagine Surveyors (IND) to improve productivity in the long run.
