The Art of Meeting: Understanding Cultural Differences Through Intercultural Psychology and Education
1.
2. Welcome
Around 20 years ago I went to Europe to study. I lived in Spain, Italy and Belgium.
I worked with refugees, students of the European Counsel and I was the protagonist
of my own studies and reflections.
There I found the Intercultural Psychology, that had a brilliant vision about migration,
the people’s mental squeme and the processes of adaptation. After it, I found the
Intercultural Education, that shows us a new perspective about the world.
Then, an exclusive methodology was born, at the same time touching people’s
hearts and bringing outstanding knowledge, making them rethink about the
way they deal with differences.
And so, the art of meeting became our passion and expertise.

3. about the
COMPANY
We are experts in the preparation of people for adaptation,
communication, living together and negotiation with
foreign cultures in three different areas:
Executive, Cultural Exchange and Sports.
4. EXECUTIVE
Multicultural teams that live
together or negotiate with different
cultures enhance and sophisticate
their resources when they understand
the mindset that drives each of its
members, strengthening empathy and
complicity, which is fundamental inside
organizations.
In the same way expats and their families
profit enormously when they come to understand
the complexity of migration and the factors of
risk and success that it comprises.
5. EXCHANGE
How one can guarantee the
success of an exchange program?
We are all ears to the well being
of all involved: the exchangee, the
host family, their relatives and
the moderating agencies.
Our goal is to optimize the
students capabilities, so that
he can face his challenges
with more resources and
judgment.
6. SPORTS
Athletes from all areas are exported to
foreign countries daily, specially soccer
players, for their talent in the field.
Our objective is to help them adapting in the
out-of-the-field setting. How to adapt in the
club, in the country, to the local rules? Wives
and relatives also deserve special attention in
these displacements, as well as the professionals
that go with them. Understand people’s behavior
is always a big differential for the athlete and
everyone involved.

EXCLUSIVE BACKGROUND
in intercultural psychology and
intercultural education
Andrea Sebben Team is a reference both inside and
outside the country in themes related to Intercultural
Psychology and Intercultural Education.
8. What is
Intercultural Psychologist
It’s a field of Psychology that studies the relation between culture and behavior,
therefore it concerns the connexion between culturally diversed individuals.
Some exclusive topics inside Intercultural Psychology:
• People’s mindset;
• Evolution of the migration process;
• Emigration and language;
• Emigration and identity;
• Acculturative stress and processes of acculturation;
• Structure of Social and Psychological Adaptation;
• Migratory Psychopathologies;
• Basic characteristics of the migratory experience;
• Communication and perception;
• Discrimination, prejudice and stereotypy;
• Culture, national character and their influence on relations.
9. Intercultural Education
The Intercultural Education believe in diversity as a source of
learning and enrichment.
The development of intercultural skills is not easy, as it presupposes
the changing and overcoming himself and his ethnocentrism.
So rather than a content, it is a method developed to encourage new
behaviors and invites us to develop attentive listening to the other,
the decentering and cognitive skills necessary to overcome misun-
derstandings and misperceptions that normally have different
cultures from ours.
10. Our participants must be able to understand BEYOND local
etiquette, they must comprehend the reasons behind some of the
attitudes within the intercultural encounter. It's meant to be a process
in which the counterparts will communicate with each other and
seek behavioral alternatives in order to obtain intelligent and useful
results.

GOALS
11. the difference is in our
METHODOLOGY
We utilize Intercultural Education games, Intercultural Simula-
tion games, Case Studies, Au- diovisual Resources, specific
Intercultural Educa- tion manual about the host country and
support, as a 24/7 support to Brazilians and foreigners during
their migration.
12. the difference is in the
PEOPLE
Our vast experience with diverse public, a
portrait of our own intercultural identity,
makes our presentations expressions of
pure affection, humor and knowledge.
Writing is also part of our everyday lives. Through
books, articles and interviews, we share our
knowledge and reflections with all of those who
wish to evolve, differentiate themselves, and
become, like us, architects of bridges.

15. the difference is in our
RESULTS
In 15 years Equipe Andréa Sebben has trained about 15,000
people migrating to countries like Australia, United States,
Canada, Angola, China, India, Argentina, Peru, Japan, South
Korea, Morocco, Algeria, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Switzerland,
England, France, Germany, South Africa, Iceland and others. Our
premature return rate is less than 1%.
16. “I've been receiving excellent feedback from the trainings this
company provides from our employees. Really, it's not just one or
two, it's all of them! You really excel in what you do. Thank you for
the great job and let's maintain our partnership!”
- Mabel Vidal - RMs Manager
“Yesterday I had the opportunity to participate in the Intercultural Training
ministered by the extraordinary Andréa Sebben. I'd like to register that
this initiative was spectacular, her knowledge is amazing and our day
together was a huge success in my point of view. I admit I had doubts
concerning how the theme would be presented because of my previous
experience in trainings of this nature, and because of my experience of being
an expat for 3 years in England. Either way, the training exceed my
expectations, congratulations to the creators!”
- Maurício Lombardi - Head of CSS
17. “Today I've found out that I'm very global and international, but
not really intercultural! I'll remember the teachings from today
with tenderness and I'll apply it in my professional life, but I'll use it
fundamentally in my personal life!”
- Ricardo Yokota
“The theme was approached in a clear and objective fashion and,
mainly, allowed me to construct a clearer perception on the meaning
of 'living and working abroad'. I've read a lot about the life changes
(personal and professional) that encompasses the life of those who
choose such path, but in any of my sources I encountered the scientific
approach that this training provided. I leave the training with a total different
perspective from that which I had before I entered.”
- Eli Renato -
18. “Simply spectacular. Clubs hardly worry in orientating, helping and
preparing the athletes. When in Portugal, I didn’t have any information, the
club was only interested in money. I went there just with courage, certain
of a thing: I wanted to win outside the country. I grew up a lot, together
with wife and kids, we stood up, went through difficulties and finally won
and we made a lot of friends. Congratulations for what you do! Keep up.”
- Ricardo Nanusevicius - Campus Pelé – Jundiaí/SP
“Andrea’s work is wonderful. After knowing the Intercultural training
proposed by her we can’t imagine anymore our exchange students going
on an airplane without going through this work. Besides this pre depar-
ture preparation, the accompaniment that Andrea gives while our stu-
dents are abroad is fundamental so that they can face the difficulties that
show up along the way. We admire and trust in your work.”
- Allan Mitelmão - Director da Just Intercâmbios, Sorocaba/SP
19. “Andrea manages, in just one day, to pass confidence and serenity not
only to us, agency, but mainly to our clients. The feedback that we receive
from our clients after each training confirms that her work is of high quality.
It is impressive that how she manages to touch the minds and hearts of all
the ones involved and at the end of each training there is always a lot of
emotion in the air. Knowing that we can count on a professional of such
quality, 24 hours, 7 days a week, it is also a great differential of our work.”
Paula Starling de Azevedo – Intervip Belo Horizonte/MG
