AUDIENCE RESEARCH:
GENERAL
SURVEY
For thispart of my general audience research, I created a survey to
inform me about the use of music magazines. Because most Kpop
fans that would read my music magazine are teenagers to young
adults, I asked five people that were 16 years old and five
that were 18-19. I wrote a few key questions to get precise
answers that will help me for the production of my music magazine.
2.
I don't havea favourite to
continually want to buy
I read about updates on the
internet
I find out information through Twitter
and Instagram from my favourite artists’
pages
I’m very interested in all sorts of
artists’ interviews but Youtube
gives me free access to them
I go online for music
news
Technology in this generation gives
me access to the info magazines
would have
I feel like magazines are old-
fashioned now, just like CDs and
DVDs
1. DO YOU BUY MUSIC MAGAZINES?
WHY?
I love to collect music magazines and I love
the nostalgic feeling they give me, like vinyls
I don’t use social media much
so buying magazines is how I
keep up to date with the
genres of music that I like
NO
YES

1. DO YOUBUY MUSIC MAGAZINES?
WHY?
For question 1, I asked ‘Do you buy music magazines? Why?’.
7 out of 10 people said No and 3 said Yes. Because this
generation consists of technology and the instant-access
internet, I was not surprised with these statistics and
responses. Most people said that they can find free
information about their artists on their social media
platforms as well as interviews online.
Those as answered Yes said they like the nostalgia from
music magazines as well as not using social media much.

2. WHAT FEATUREATTRACTS YOU
MOST TO A MUSIC MAGAZINE?
(PICK TWO)
FEATURING
ARTISTS
MASTHEAD
COVER
STAR
FEATURE
COLOURS
For my second question, I asked what music
magazines my target audience are attracted by
the most, asking them to pick two.
These results tell me that my audience believe
the featuring artists on the cover lines are just
as important as the cover star, telling me that
featuring artists on my front cover is
very important and I should include the
biggest current Kpop artists & groups. I
also found of that the masthead is more
significant that the feature colours, meaning
that I need to create a masthead with meaning
that relates to my genre of music
magazine, Kpop.

3. WHAT DOYOU FIRST THING OF
WHEN YOU THINK ‘KPOP’?
For my third question, I asked what
some of the first things that came to
mind when my target audience
thought of Kpop and Kpop artists.
Most people thought of the bright
colours and effects in Kpop MVs as
well as the cool asian fashion with
the dyed hair. South Korea is an
image-obsessed country and one of
the biggest obsessions is clear, dewy
skin which all Kpop artists have
which was one of my answers I got.
These answers will help me when
planning my music magazine pages
and the models’ appearances.
Bright colours that
pop (in MVs and
fashion + hair dye)
Perfect, dewy skin
Things that link with
electro (technology, etc) Girl groups are often very
girly, so girly things
Unique fashion style +
makeup
Straight, asian hair and
flashy effects in MVs

For my final question, I wanted to find out at
what price would my target audience buy my
magazine. Half of the survey-takers said they
would pay between £2.00-£3.99; these
results tell me that my price should be in
between those prices. Two people chose
£0.00 and two others chose £0.01-£1.99,
leaving one person answering to £4.00 and
over.
