4. HOW TO OBTAIN A WORK PERMIT BY AN
IMMIGRATION LAWYER IN BANGLADESH
Foreign expatriates who come to Bangladesh to work in various local and
foreign companies are required to obtain a work permit from the respective
government authority. The immigration lawyer in Bangladesh has to
process the work permit with Bangladesh Investment Development
Authority (BIDA), formerly known as BOI, is the authority who issues the
work permit for such foreign expats.

• Upon expiry of the visa, the expatriate shall apply for the extension of the
visa to Department of Immigration and Passport (DIP) provided the
Agreement between the parties is complied.
• DIP would be satisfied, and shall only grant visa upon Recommendation
given from the:
• Concerned ministry, or
• Economic Relation Department of the Ministry of Finance, or
• Relevant government agency of Bangladesh, or Subject to the Security

Procedure:
• The visa is issued by the respective Bangladeshi Embassy upon receiving :
• Required Documents, and
• Recommendation of recognized chambers of commerce, or
• Recommendation of the local sponsor in Bangladesh (aka B-visa
Recommendation Letter)
12. Duration:
• Maximum of Six Months
• Extension in Bangladesh
• Upon expiry of the visa, the expatriate shall apply for the extension of
the visa to Department of Immigration and Passport (DIP) with
the Recommendation given from the Local sponsor and other required
documents.Subject to the Security Clearance, and can be extended to a
maximum of Three years
13. E VISA
Applicable to: Experts/advisers/employees/individuals appointed in
government/semi-government/autonomous bodies/ projects and equivalent
organizations . Or, Individuals employed in local/foreign government/semi-
government/liaison/Industrial/commercial organizations or other equivalent
organizations.

Procedure:
• The visa is issued by the respective Bangladeshi Embassy upon receiving :
• Required Documents, and
• Recommendation of the concerned Ministry in Bangladesh{relevant offices
are the, Bangladesh Board of Investment (BOI)/Bangladesh Export
Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA)}
14. Duration:
• Maximum of three month.
• Extension in Bangladesh
• Once the expatriate enters into Bangladesh with the short visa, he needs to
obtain the work-permit from BOI/BEPZA. The work-permit can be granted
for a period of one to two years.
• Then the expatriate needs to apply to the Department of immigration and
Passport (DIP) along with relevant documents for extending the visa. The
DIP upon receiving the Security clearance and the work-perm, it can extend
the visa for the full employment period or maximum three years, whichever
is shorter.
15. E1 VISA
Applicable to individual visiting for:
1. Supply
2. Installation
3. Maintenance of equipment and software
4. Supervision of projects
Main purpose/objective of the visa Supply of software and
machineries/installation/maintenance/training/supervision/project visit
Whom to apply: Respective Bangladeshi Embassy
Procedure: The visa is issued by the respective Bangladeshi Embassy upon
revealing all the required documents along with the invitation letter from the
local sponsor and recommendation from the concerned Ministry in
Bangladesh/ Bangladesh Board of investment (BOI)/Bangladesh Export
Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA).
16. Duration: Maximum of Three Months
Extension in Bangladesh:
• Once the expatriate into Bangladesh with the short visa, he needs to obtain
the work-permit from BOI/BEPZA. The work-permit can be granted for a
period of One to two years.
• Then the expatriate needs to apply to the Department of Immigration and
Passport (DIP) along with relevant documents for extending the visa.
• The DIP upon receiving the Security clearance and the work-permit can
extend the visa for the full employment period or maximum three years,
whichever is shorter.
17. N VISA
To whom it applies: Applicable individuals appointed in NGOs
registered in Bangladesh
Main purpose/objective of the visa: Employment Service for NGO’s
Whom to apply: Respective Bangladeshi Embassy
Procedure:
• Submitting the Required Documents along with: Recommendation from
the NGO Affairs Bureau of Bangladesh , and
• NGO’s documents.
Duration: Maximum of Three Months
18. Extension in Bangladesh: Upon expiry of the visa, the expatriate shall
apply for the extension of the visa to Department of Immigration and
Passport (DIP) upon Receiving :
1.Work Permit
2. Subject to the Security Clearance.
3. And can be extended to the Full Work Period
19. PI VISA
To whom it applies: Applicable to Invertors in existing/ New/Under
construction/Upcoming industrial/Commercial entity
Main purpose/objective of the visa: To enrich:
1.Investment
2.Management of established business
3.Commercial organization
Whom to apply: Respective Bangladeshi Embassy
Procedure
• Required Documents, and
• Recommendation from Bangladesh Board of Investment (BOI), or
• Recommendation of Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority
(BEPZA) certifying that the applicant is a genuine investor.
20. Duration: Maximum period of One Year
Extension in Bangladesh: Upon expiry of the visa, the expatriate shall apply
for the extension of the visa to Department of Immigration and Passport
(DIP). The DIP upon receiving recommendation letter from BOI stating that
the investment is continuing, recommendation letter from relevant
organization (company in which the investment is made) and security
clearance along with other requisite documents, can extend the visa for
maximum of five years.
21. T VISA
Applicable: citizen of any country having diplomatic relations with
Bangladesh or individual
Purpose attending seminar / symposium / study tour/tourism/visiting
relatives
Whom to apply: Respective Bangladeshi Embassy
Procedure: Submitting required documents to the Respective Bangladeshi
Embassy
Duration: Maximum 2 months
Extension: Upon expiry of the visa, the visa holder can apply for the
extension of the visa to the Department of Immigration and Passport (DIP).
DIP can extend the visa for maximum one month.
