SIDE WALKWAY
Side walkwayisacomponentof the trafficmanagementsystemwhichismade toseparate the
movementof peoplefromvehicles.Vehiclesinclude trucks, forklift,carsandpallettrucksusedfor
the movementof goods withinandoutof the work area.Side walkways canbe withinthe workarea,
storage area or withinthe premises(mostlyareaswhere there isahazard/risk of collisionbetween
pedestriansandvehicles)
RULES OF THE WALKWAY
• Walkon the sidewalkalways exceptareatagged“pedestrianfree zones”
• Your senses are requiredwhenwalkingonsidewalks anddon’tuse yourcell phone forcalls,
chattingand seeingamovie orevenlisteningtomusic
Avoidslip,tripandfallsbynot placinganythingalongthe walkway( pallets, cablesorliquidspills
shouldbe cleanedupimmediately)
Respectothersidewalkusersbyalwaysmaintainingafile.Nowalkingside-by-side toavoid
bumpingintoothersmovinginthe opposite direction
• Alwayslookleft,right,andleftagainbefore crossing apedestrianwalkway (zebracrossing),and
keepwatchingasyoucross. Be aware that drivershave differinglevelsof eyesightandskill in
operatingmotorvehicles.
• Pedestriansshouldbe especiallycareful atintersections,where driversmayfail to yield
the right-of-waytopedestrianswhileturningontoanotherstreet.
Make sure youare seen:
- Make eye contact withdriverswhencrossingpedestrianwalkways.
-Wearbrightcoloursor reflective clothingif youare workingclose toa walkway toavoidpeople
bumpingintoyou
Walkdefensivelyandbe readyforunexpectedevents.Know what’sgoingonaroundyou
and don’tallowyourvisiontobe blockedbyclothing,hats,oritemsthatyou are carrying.
• Avoidalcohol anddrugsas theycan impairyourability towalksafely.
WALKWAYS SHOULD ALWAYS BE WALKWAYS. THEY SHOULD NOT BE TURNED INTO A
CONFERENCE ROOM
