A complete denture has 3 surfaces-
1. Occlusal Surface
2. Polished Surface

7. SURFACES OF COMPLETE DENTURE
• Impression surface : That portion of the surface
of a denture that had Its shape determined by
impression.
• Occlusal surface : That portion of the surface of a
denture which makes contact with the
corresponding surface of a opposing denture.
• Polished Surface : That portion of the surface of
a denture which extends in an occlusal direction
from the border of the denture and which
includes the palatal surface.

9. • Denture Base : That portion of a denture which rests on the oral mucosa and to
which teeth are attached.
• Denture Flange : The essentially vertical extension from the body of the denture
into one of the vestibules of the Oral cavity. It provides peripheral seal and
horizontal stability to the denture.
• Denture Border : The margin of the denture base at the Junction of the polished
surface and the impression surface.It is responsible for peripheral seal.
• Denture Teeth : It is the most important part of the complete denture from the
patient‘s point of view. The function of the denture teeth are aesthetic, mastication
and speech.
14. RELIEF AREA SHOULD BE RELIEVED BY MODELLING WAX.
RELIEF AREA: THE AREA OF A DENTURE THAT IS REDUCED TO ELIMINATE
EXCESSIVE PRESSURE.

25. TOOTH SELECTION
Anterior Teeth Selection :
Anterior teeth are selected to satisfy aesthetic requirement.
A. Shape & form of tooth:
1. Arch form :
• V shape arch - narrow neck / cervical portion.
• Square shape arch - perallel shape anterior teeth
• Round arch - ovoid teeth.
2. Face form :
Square, Taper, Ovoid

4. Sex :
• Male - sharp angle , square , cuboidal, angular teeth.
• Female - Rounded , ovoid , tappering teeth.
5. Age : In old age square form teeth.
6. Patient preference.

1. Length :Depends on –
• Length of upper lip.
• Mobility of upper lip.
• Vertical overlap .
2. Width :Usually 46 mm( Canine to canine measurement)

1. Age –
• Young patient - light colour
• Older patient - dark color
2. Sex -Female have brighter colour then male.
3. Complexion - Hair colour, eye colour & skin colour should harmonize the colour of teeth.
D. Material of teeth :

29. • Posterior Tooth Selection : Points to be considered before selection of
posterior teeth.
1. Bucco - lingual width of posterior teeth.
2. Mesio - distal length of posterior teeth.
3. Vertical height ( crown height ) of buccal surface of teeth.

37. 20.Curing:
• Bench Curing for 20 minutes. It permits equalization of pressure throughout the mould. If resin teeth are used, it provides a
longer exposure of resin teeth to the monomer producing a better bond of the teeth with base material.
• Curing :
1. Low Temperature : 30 minutes
2. High Temperature : 1 Hour
3. Short Cycle : 65°c for 30 minutes
4. Long Cycle : 60-70°c for 9 hours
41. 24. Insertion into mouth : After insertion we should check
the retention and stability of the denture.
42. CARE OF DENTURE
• The patient is advised to avoid nightwear of the Prosthesis. The denture should
stored in water or any dilute solution( Chlorhexidine,Sodium perborate) at night.
• Denture should never be placed in hot water.
• The denture should be clean using a denture cleaning brush and tooth paste /
soap water.
43. COMMON COMPLAINTS OF PATIENT AFTER
WEARING NEW DENTURE
• Pain and discomfort
• Appearance
• Inability to eat
• Lack of retention and stability
• Clicking of teeth
• Altered speech
• Food under the denture
• Inability to keep the denture clean
44. CONCLUSION
Although it may take some time getting used to wearing dentures.They can
eventually help with all speaking problems. Dentures support facial muscles and
structures and decrease oral bone loss. Replacing missing teeth can significantly
help improve appearance and oral health. Dentures provide a highly-effective
option to restore self-esteem and allow to speak clearly again and enjoy the foods
you love.
