To Whom It May Concern
I have a diverse skill set, that when combined with my education, values, and motivation, will allow me to help your company
succeed and grow.
I began my career endeavors with an education at the University of Iowa. I chose to study economics because I like to think
critically about social and political systems. I also take an interest in people, and seek to answer the question; why does a
person make the choices that they do, given a number of options? Thinking in economic terms, I can motivate and lead people
to achieve a task in an efficient manner. I solve problems, I’m analytical, and I don’t make decisions rashly. I have a Minor in
Business Administration, because I studied economics as a practical foundation for work in business, not just as a theoretical
idea. I took classes with an emphasis in the University’s entrepreneurial department, understanding that small businesses are
the backbone of our economy.
After college, I sought to get management and job experience. My values drew me to the US Army as a respected organization
that would allow me to get “real-world” experience while helping others. I enlisted as a Petroleum Supply Specialist which
provided me hands-on training in the operation of storage, dispensing, and distribution facilities and pipeline systems for
petroleum, oils, and lubricants. I worked in more than one facet as a soldier. I trained my squad, platoon, and company on
various tasks from first aid to battle drills. I can learn anything, and performance reviews often showed that I was an excellent
NCO who possessed outstanding technical and tactical proficiency, exceptional organization and briefing skills, and
consistently mission-focused. For example, my emphasis on safety resulted in my squad driving over 4000 accident free miles
during a year-long deployment to Iraq (OIF IV) and reacted to 6 IED detonations with zero injuries.
My Army career took a different path than I had anticipated, when in 2008, I received orders for assignment as a recruiter. Of
all the incredible things in the Army, being a recruiter is universally accepted as the hardest job. I welcomed the challenge, and
thought that it fit my organizational and educational skills much better than that of a petroleum supply specialist. I was quickly
recognized as an articulate and straight forward recruiter, who possessed the unique ability to connect with applicants of any
age and background. I achieved outstanding results when confronted with limited resources, and always found a way to
accomplish very tough missions. I excelled at recruiting and was soon promoted, and assigned as a Station Commander. In this
position, I was much more a manager, but I still led by example. I constantly promoted, displayed and enforced a respectful
workplace; created an environment free of EO and harassment complaints. As a newly assigned center commander, I instilled
my prior knowledge and processes which directly resulted in an increase in mission accomplishment; the center achieved
116% mission accomplishment my first year. I have the ability to perform numerous tasks with minimal supervision.
I would like to take my next career step with your organization. I feel that my professionalism and skills would help you, and
your company would allow me to learn and develop further specialties. I am always looking to better myself through self-
development, education, and training, yet I do not want to be a jack of all trades and a master of none. I seek to use my diverse
background like a tool kit, and choose which skill works best for a specific job, so that each task can be accomplished in the
most efficient manner possible, and everybody benefits. My focus is on the team, and how using and developing each
individual’s strengths multiplies the outcome for all.
Sincerely,
Adam Brown
