Abhiiith Asok: student on LSE Leadership Course
Abhijith Asok ottended the LSE summer school course MG204 Leodership in Orgonisotions in
July 2013. The course is highly selective ond occepts only the best students from oround the
world, including mony with extensive work ond leodership experience.
This is on intermediote university level course designed to provide studenis with the
knowledge, skills, ond onoiyticolcopobilities needed to proctice leodership in modern
orgonisotions. lt explores the noture of leodership in terms of how individuols effectively build
ogreement to shored gools ond courses of oction ond focilitoie orgonisotionol movement
ioword the ochievement of these gools. The emphosis of the course is on the opplicotion of
theory, comporing ond controsting ideos. self-reflection, ond self-discovery of one's own
leodership potentiol ond strengths. The course includes sessions on influence ond power,
insights into humon motivotion, individuoldifferences ond leodership, tronsformotionol
leodership, leodership communicotion, building effective reloiionships, shored leodership
ond teom working, leoders ond sociol networks. leoding chonge ond culture ond leodership.
The course comprises thirty-six lecture hours ond twelve seminor closs hours in smoll groups, I
om one of the seminor closs teochers for the course ond Abh'rjith Asok ottended my closses.
He wos o modelstudent, preporing wellfor the closses by doing the pre-reoding ond cose
study onolysis, os well os the individuol self-ossessment exercises ond group project onolysis.
Although English is his second Ionguoge, Abh{ith Asok contributed fully throughout lhe
course, moking thoughtfulinsights to the group discussions ond closs exercises. He osked
intelligent questions ond reflected on feedbock, cleorly demonstroiing how he hod leornt
from the course. lt wos o pleosure to hove Abhiiith Asok in my closses.
The course wos ossessed through o group project ond o two hour essoy exominotion, Abhijith
Asok received one of the highest grodes oworded, 'A-'. His exom essoys were outstonding,
one of the very best out of the closs of 70 students, demonstroting thorough onolysis os well
os very strong writing. This is o highly commendoble ochievement given lhis wos the first time
he hod ottempted such on essoy sfyle of exom in English.
