- 15. 1.Bacterial Theory : Gum diseases may harm the heart too. “The PORPHYROMONAS GINGIVALIS BACTERIUM” can actually migrate from the mouth to the heart and cause infalmmation in arteries that promotes atherosclerosis.” 2.C reactive protein: CRP is an inflammation marker – a substance that the body releases in response to inflammation . High levels of CRP in the blood mean that there is inflammation somewhere in the body. The researchers theorize that people living with a chronic infection such as gum disease may produce higher levelsof C-reactive protien,which could place them at higher risk of heart attacks.

- These are the basic functions of teeth or tooth. But other than this it also has a link with your other oragns of the body.One of them is Heart.
- According to scientific studies, gum diseases and cardiovascular diseases may be associated.According to one proposition, the primary association between heart disease and strokes and gum disease is the relationship between inflammation or infection and the production of C-reactive protien. It is also found that patients with gum diseases have significantly higher levels of inflammatory products such as fibrinogen and WBC , which are well-known risk factors for acute heart attacks. This is also probably because the inflammation caused by periodontal disease increases the build up of plaque which may consequently lead to the swelling of arteries.2. Another theory is that with infection, the body responds in a way that the risk of developing,atheroscelorosis is increased.The dental bacterial components may be to blame.3. In one theory , it states that oral bacteria can affect the heart when they entre the blood stream, attaching themselves to fatty plaques in the coronary arteries and contributing to clot formation. As clot forms , the normal flow of blood is obstructed ,restricting the amount of nutrients and oxygen required for the heart to function properly which may lead to heart attacks.4. Moreover,new development in medical research have claimed that the bacteria CHLAMYDIA PNEUMONIAE has been found in the walls off the blood vessels of patients who have had heart attacks It is therefore important you watch out for the symptoms of gum diseases such as bleeding after you floss or brish your teeth.

- Gingivitis is a mild form of gum disease and the most common .It is reversible and involves only gum tissue around the teethSigns: Bleeding when brushing or Flossing,red tissues between the teeth and pain or tenderness
- Periodontitis is the more destructive form of gum disease. It is not reversible and involves permanent loss of the gums and underlying bone eventually leading to toothloss.Signs: Chronic bad breath, receding gums, and teeth that are loose (bleeding may or may not occur).
- Tilt the brush at a 45° angle against the gumline. Brushing only 2-3 teeth at a time, gently brush the outside, inside and chewingsurfaces of all your teeth. Use short back-and-forth or circular strokes.Don’t forget to brush your tongue to remove bacteria and freshen your breath!
- Using your middle fingers, wrap about 18” of floss around them (but not too tightly). Leave about an inch or two of floss between your hands.Now,the gently follow the curves of your teeth,sliding the floss up and down the tooth’s surface a few times.Don’t forget to go below the gumline.
