Piston Pump (Propel) - Disassemble - Axle Propel Pump

Disassembly Procedure
Start By:
A. Remove the propel pumps. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Piston Pumps (Axle
Propel and Drum Propel) - Remove".
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the disassembly procedure, the exterior of the
component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal
mechanism.

1. Remove bolts (2) and remove mounting flange (1) from head assembly (3) .

2. Remove O-ring seal (4) from mounting flange (1) .

4. Remove coupling (6) from head assembly (3) .
5. Remove retaining ring (7) from coupling (6) .
6. Remove bolts (8) and remove head assembly (3) from the housing.

7. Remove O-ring seals (10) and (11) from head assembly (3) .
8. Remove dowels (12) from head assembly (3) .
Note: Mark the orientation of port plate (9) for assembly purposes.
9. Remove port plate (9) from head assembly (3) .
Note: Mark the orientation of pin (13) for assembly purposes.
10. Remove pin (13) from port plate (9) .
11. Remove nut (15) and solenoid assembly (14) .

12. Remove sequence valve (16) from head assembly (3) .
13. Remove O-ring seal (17) from sequence valve (16) .
14. Remove plug (18), spring (19) and relief valve (20) from both sides of head assembly (3) .

15. Remove O-ring seal (21) and backup ring (22) from plugs (18) .
16. Remove screw (28), poppet valve (26), spring retainer (25), shims (24), and spring (23)
from head assembly (3) .
17. Remove O-ring seal (27) from screw (28) .

18. Remove screw (33), spring retainer (31), spring (30), spring retainer (29), spool (36), and
valve (34) from head assembly (3) .
19. Remove pistons (35) and (37) from spool (36) .

21. Remove O-ring seal (38) from valve (34) .
22. Remove bushing (39) from the head assembly.

24. Remove five bolts (45). Remove control assembly (44) from housing (42) .
25. Remove cylinder assembly (43) from shaft (41) and housing (42) .
26. Use the following procedure and disassemble cylinder assembly (43) .
Note: Mark the orientation of pistons (46) and cylinder (48) for assembly purposes.
a. Remove nine pistons (46) and retainer plate (47) from cylinder (48) .

b. Remove retainer (49) from cylinder (48) .
c. Remove shims (50) and springs (51). Note the position of the springs. The springs
must be installed in the same position for proper clearance.

Sudden release of spring force can cause injury.
To prevent the possibility of injury, follow the procedure to relieve the
spring pressure.
d. Position cylinder (48) in a press. Install a suitable piece of square steel stock against
shim (53). Use the press and apply slight compression on spring (55). Remove
retaining ring (54) and slowly release the spring compression.
e. Remove shim (53), spring (55), and shim (52) from cylinder (48) .
27. Use the following procedure and disassemble control assembly (44) .
a. Remove seal (59) from control body (57) .
b. Loosen screw (58) and remove lever (56) .

c. Loosen jam nut (64). Remove switch (65) from adapter (63) .
d. Remove adapter (63), spool (62), spring (61), and retainer (60) from control body
(57) .
e. Remove jam nut (64) and O-ring seal (68) from adapter (63) .
f. Remove poppet valve (66) from valve (67). Remove valve (67) from adapter (63).
Remove the O-ring seals from valve (67) .
g. Remove plug (69), spring (70), and spring retainer (71) from spool (62) .

h. Remove O-ring seals (72) from control body (57) .
i. Loosen nut (74). Remove eccentric pin (73) and lever (75) from control body (57) .
j. Remove screws (76). Remove retainer (78) and rotary spool (77) from control body
(57) .

k. Remove O-ring seal (80). Remove sleeve (79) from rotary spool (77) .
l. Remove shim (81) and retainer (78) from rotary spool (77) .

m. Remove O-ring seal (82) from retainer (78) .
n. Remove O-ring seal (83) and pin (84) from rotary spool (77) .
28. Remove cradle assembly (85) from housing (42) .

29. Use the following procedure and disassemble cradle assembly (85) .
a. Remove wire (90) and cage (91) from cradle (86) .
b. Remove pin (87), roller (88), cage (89) and wire (92) from cradle (86) .
c. Remove the roller from both of the cages.
30. Remove bearings (93) from housing (42) .
31. Remove pins (94) from housing (42), if necessary.

32. Remove plug (96) and pin (95) from housing (42) .
33. Remove retaining ring (97) from housing (42) .
34. Remove seal (98) from housing (42) .

38. Remove bolts (102) and cover (103) from housing (42) .
39. Remove O-ring seal (104) from cover (103) .

40. Remove bolts (105). Remove cover (106) and the piston assembly from housing (42) .
Note: Measure the distance and record the distance from the end of piston assembly (107)
to nut (108) for assembly purposes.
41. Remove nut (108) and remove piston assembly (107) from cover (106) .

42. Remove O-ring seal (109) from cover (106) .
43. Remove two guide rings (110) and two seal rings (111) from housing (42) .
44. Remove plugs (112) from housing (42) .

45. Use an allen wrench and remove nozzles (113) from housing (42) .

4. Remove bolts (4) and remove mounting flange (2) from head assembly (6) .

5. Remove O-ring seals (7) and (8) from mounting flange (2) .
Note: Mark the orientation of plate (9) for assembly purposes.
6. Remove plate (9) and coupling (10) from head assembly (6) .
7. Remove seal (11) from head assembly (6) .
8. Remove bolts (12) and remove head assembly (6) from the housing.

9. Remove O-ring seals (14) and (15) from head assembly (6) .
10. Remove dowels (16) from head assembly (6) .
Note: Mark the orientation of port plate (13) for assembly purposes.
11. Remove port plate (13) from head assembly (6) .
Note: Mark the orientation of pin (17) for assembly purposes.
12. Remove pin (17) from port plate (13) .

13. Remove nut (19) and solenoid assembly (18) .
14. Remove sequence valve (20) from head assembly (6) .
15. Remove O-ring seal (21) from sequence valve (20) .

16. Remove plug (22), spring (23) and relief valve (24) from both sides of head assembly (6) .
17. Remove O-ring seal (25) and backup ring (26) from plugs (22) .

18. Remove screw (32), poppet valve (30), spring retainer (29), shims (28), and spring (27)
from head assembly (6) .
20. Remove screw (37), spring retainer (35), spring (34), spring retainer (33), spool (40), and
valve (38) from head assembly (6) .
21. Remove pistons (39) and (41) from spool (40) .

23. Remove O-ring seal (42) from valve (38) .

26. Remove five bolts (49). Remove control assembly (48) from housing (46) .
27. Remove cylinder assembly (47) from shaft (45) and housing (46) .
28. Use the following procedure and disassemble cylinder assembly (47) .
Note: Mark the orientation of pistons (50) and cylinder (52) for assembly purposes.
a. Remove nine pistons (50) and retainer plate (51) from cylinder (52) .
