Think of some of the marketers whom you respect the most, and whose emails you read on a regular basis. Do you feel like you "know" them? In other words, do they inject some personality into their emails? I would hazard a guess that most of them do. Introducing yourself to the people on your list is a critical part of building good rapport with them.
2. Think of some of the marketers whom
you respect the most, and whose
emails you read on a regular basis. Do
you feel like you "know" them? In other
words, do they inject some personality
into their emails? I would hazard a
guess that most of them do. Introducing
yourself to the people on your list is a
critical part of building good rapport
with them.
3. By "introducing yourself" I mean a couple of things.
First, it's a good idea to actually introduce yourself
to people in the first couple of emails they receive
from you after subscribing.
Give them a bit of your background, why you're
qualified to help them with whatever the topic of
your list might be, and just some general
information about yourself. This helps to take you
from some unknown person on the other side of the
email to a real person whom they can relate to.
4. You might even use an "About Me" page on your
blog or some other website to accomplish this.
Simply refer them to that page to read more about
you in one of the early emails you send.
The other thing I mean by "introducing" yourself is
to talk a little bit about yourself in the email you
send them. You don't want to get super personal or
focus too much on yourself, but when you include
little bits of information about your life and the
things that are happening with you, it's going to
help strengthen your rapport with them.
5. This can be as simple as talking about
things you're working on or plans you're
making. Or you might want to share a bit
about your own experiences in the market
you're working in - successes and failures
both.
Sharing your own failures and what you've
learned from them not only helps the people
on your list see you as a "real" person, it can
also help them learn from your mistakes so
they don't make the same ones themselves.
6. Basically, treat the people who subscribe to
your list much the same as you would treat
someone you met in person. If you meet
someone in person, you usually tell them a
little about yourself and get to know one
another to a certain degree, before you jump
into discussing business.
If you do the same for people on your email
list, you'll stand out from most other marketers
out there which will help you create raving fans
from the people on your list.
