Does anyone have a fair share of knowledge about work visas?
1. Does anyone have a fair share of knowledge about work
visas?
I assume you're aged between 18 and under 31 and have at least graduated from high school so that
you're eligible for a 12 month Work and Holiday visa.

Working holiday makers are free to do any kind of work they can find for the whole 12 months with
the only restriction being that they can only work for a maximum of 6 months with each employer.
Most work in bars, restaurants and other areas of hospitality and/or they do fruit-picking or other
farm work and there is plenty of such work available.
There are volunteer work schemes such as WWOOF where they don't get paid but receive board and
lodging from the hosts.

The vast majority of working holiday makers however do paid work and it is rare (though not
unheard of if the work is in hotels or resorts or on a few farms) for accommodation to be provided by
the employer. Fruit picking is usually done on a piecework basis (the more you pick, the more you
earn) but everywhere else, you must be paid at least the minimum wage. For casual workers,
minimum wage for an adult (21+) is $21.08/hour. Minimum wage at 18 is 68.3% of that, 19 is 82.5%
and 20 is 97.7%.
The USA only has working holiday arrangements with Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and South
Korea. Of thsoe, the New Zealand scheme is the most flexible with Australia next and the other two
a long way behind.
