3. Chapter 36 At this point of the story, the main character, James, is bidding farewell to his friends, as he feared they might never meet again. The theme of sadness is evident because we can see that James is saying goodbye to his friends like this is the end.

Chapter 37 At this point of the story, the main characters, James, Centipede, Old-Green-Grasshopper and Miss Spider are popping their heads out of the peach and greeting the policemen and the firemen. Instead, the firemen and policemen are scared of them. The theme of fear and happiness are evident as the policemen and the firemen are afraid of James’ friends. James and his friends are happy to land in the city.
