What kind of media institute
might distribute your media
product and why?
In the real world of film there are many ways that a
film can be distributed. The key one is CINEMA –
this tends to be for bigger more ‘Hollywood’ type
films as they have a lot of money to make them and
marketing/advertisement is high so there will be a
buzz about the film. However some cheaply made
films don’t get the red carpet and can be released
straight to DVDE for sale, this still costs considerable
amounts of money. Distributing films to CINEMA
allow for a wider range of people to see your film
and enjoy it through an experience which is hard to
replicate. This then leads to DVD/digital sales.
Films after release in the cinema will be later
released for TV (Sky box office receive films first
as they still charge to view them). Some films
however are made specifically for TV and are
normally made by a TV channel – for example
‘Film 4’ produce there own films and show them
on there channel and some of the films are
shown at the CINEMA.
Back to reality…
If I was to try and distribute my own
film, because it isn’t a phenomenal piece of art
and it doesn’t have the financial backing of a
Hollywood film, distribution to the cinema is out
of the question. So is DVD and TV. However –
The INTERNET allows me to publish my film to a
global audience! Through sites such as
‘YouTube’ and ‘Vimeo’ I can publish my film for
free and in a matter of minuets.
WE MEDIA
Here is what we media say they do –
‘’We tell stories, build brands, find audiences and explore
frontiers to help any company become a media company. We
create, manage and operate media productions, produce live
events, and we support, advise and collaborate with
publishers, marketers, NGOs, arts organizations, start-
ups, investors, social ventures and educational institutions
worldwide. We help our clients create, operate and grow
media ventures to unleash the intelligence, influence and
value of networked communities everywhere.’’
