Set your objective
• List and prioritize the top three goals that you want to
accomplish with your audience. It's not enough just to
talk at them. You may think you know what you want to
accomplish in your presentation, but if you're not clear
with yourself and others, it is very easy - too easy - for
your audience to completely miss the point of your
presentation. For example, your goals may be for them
to appreciate the accomplishments of your organization,
learn how to use your services, etc. Again, the goals
should be in terms of what you want to accomplish with
your audience.

you want to convey to your audience.
When you're done making that list, then
ask yourself, "If everyone in the audience
understands all of those points, then will I
have achieved the goal that I set for this
meeting?"

What is communication
• Communication is commonly defined as "the
imparting or interchange of thoughts, opinions,
or information by speech, writing, or signs".
Although there is such a thing as one-way
communication, communication can be
perceived better as a two-way process in which
there is an exchange and progression of
thoughts, feelings or ideas (energy) towards a
mutually accepted goal or direction
(information).

How communication evolved
• Through Speech: Evolution of the brain differentiated humans from animals, as
among other things it allowed humans to master a very efficient form of
communication - speech. Speech greatly facilitated the transmission of information
and knowledge to further generations. Experiences passed on through speech
became increasingly rich, and allowed humans to adapt themselves to new
environments - or adapt the environments to themselves - much more quickly than
was possible before; in effect, biological human evolution was overtaken by
technological progress and sociocultural evolution.
• Through Symbols: The imperfection of speech, which nonetheless allowed easier
dissemination of ideas and stimulated inventions, eventually resulted in the creation
of new forms of communications, improving both the range at which people could
communicate and the longevity of the information. All of those inventions were based
on the key concept of the symbol: a conventional representation of a concept. (Cave
paintings, Petroglyphs, Pictograms, Ideograms, Writing, Alphabet.
• Through Telecomunication: the transmission of signals over a distance for the
purpose of communication - began thousands of years ago with the use of smoke
signals and drums in Africa, the Americas and parts of Asia. In the 1790s the first
fixed semaphore systems emerged in Europe however it was not until the 1830s that
electrical telecommunication systems started to appear.

Why Visual Communication
• Attention span of the audience is becoming lesser: The
average attention span of the audience is less than 20
minutes. Hence there becomes a greater need to
communicate effectively at a lesser time span.
• Visuals keeps the audience engaged: Gone are the
days where people listen to long speeches … time is
more in the modern work and clients are getting more
and more demanding. Visuals add that much more
spice to your presentation and will keep the audience
engaged
• Visuals gets across your message faster: People
understand visuals faster than the words.
• Visuals enhances the retention of the information
