The Trust for Public Land is a non-profit organization that
works to conserve land and nature, saving these areas for
people to enjoy. The work that the organization does is quite
varied, as is reflected in their three initiatives: land and water,
parks for people, and working lands. The first initiative involves
protecting water resources, which will save communities
money on water treatment as well as safeguard that area for
animals and plant life. Meanwhile, their parks for people
initiative reflects their belief in the importance of parks in
decreasing crime, promoting public health, and improving local
economies. The Trust for Public Land sees that in urban
areas, these parks may be the only connection that children
have to nature. Lastly, through their working lands initiative,
the organization attempts to protect farmlands, forests, and
ranches from planned development, preserving the local jobs
that these lands provide in addition to protecting the
environment.
