Shots are available in different sizes and weights and are generally made from brass or iron. In a contest of shot put, the weight of the shot being used will totally depend on the age of the participants. The player in this game has to push the ball into the air. Understanding how the shot should be held before throwing it is also very fundamental. The shot is held between the neck and the shoulder. The shot has to be thrown from a marked circle in such a way that it will lie in the sector which is measured at 30 - 40 degrees. The player has to make use of his energy to the fullest and throw the shot as far as he can. Then, from the edge of the circle from where the shot is thrown, till the point of first impact, the distance is exactly measured.
Since the game of shot put requires a lot of energy and resistance, regular workouts and strength exercise is a must. Now, let us discuss the best shot put technique which includes glide shot put technique and shot put spin technique.
Basic Shot Put Techniques
Shot put is a game which is very challenging physically and hence, one must go through a warm up session before playing the actual game. The warm up session can comprise exercises such as skipping, running and stretching which can help to loosen the muscles of the player and get ready him for the strenuous activity.
Glide technique
The glide technique is the basic shot put technique which is quite easy for beginners to learn. In this technique, the player has to place the shot on the base of their fingers. The shot needs to be placed firmly near your neck. The angle made between your arm in which the shot is held and the ground will be of forty five degrees. The person has to stand at the point which is farthest from the pita and then kick a leg towards the throwing area. The challenge before the player is to move very fast across the marked circle with minimum air under his feet. Now, he throws the shot as far as possible. The rule is that the hips of the player throwing the shot should get warped towards the front. After measuring the distances, the one who throws the shot further as compared to the others wins the game. This is a correct shot put technique which originated several years ago and is among the most popular ones.
Spin technique
The rotational or spin technique of shot put is an advanced one and is generally attempted by the experts in the game. In this technique, the person throwing the shot has to place his leading leg at the middle of the ring. The other leg swings and rotates the body and when it is planted, the other leg repeats the same procedure. After this the player throws off the shot.
