This document contains research and prototypes for a debit card system that allows users to safely save money from purchases into a savings account by tapping their finger to a credit card terminal. Figures 1 and 2 show prototypes for an RF chip embedded in a smart debit card and a thumbnail watch. Figures 3-5 describe existing technologies like dental veneers, nail glue, and printed flexible substrates that could enable the finger-tap payment concept. The system would provide users with replacement RF transmitters applied under fingernails using nail glue for biometric verification and contactless payment at the point of sale directly into a savings account.

1. WEEK 4 ASSIGNMENT, PENN STATE, 4.2
This all harkens back to my latest design problem…that is, …a means to safely and quickly save
money while using the card terminal in a store, and putting it into an account for a given period
that draws about 5 percent interest.

I include some simple research for the virtual (focused) prototypes that I put together. I’ve
labeled all the illustrations with captions. This document will be put up on Slideshare as a slide
show.

Chip on bank card. The chip holds about 80 times more data than the magnetic stripe on
existing credit cards. Unlike the magnetic stripe, the chip can process data as well as store it,
and because each program on the chip runs on independent software, several different
programs can operate on the same card at the same time.

The middle digit does not have a lot of practical use, except its rare display and extension in
traffic or combined with the thumb to keep time to bop or to rudely summon a waitperson.
Figure 3 Hollywood types, actors, models, etc. have tooth veneers installed. It is as common as
getting false nails glued to the fingernails. Porcelain veneers are thin
porcelain shells custom made to fit over the front surface of a tooth. They
function much like false fingernails. Unlike other cosmetic dental
procedures, veneers are bonded to the front surface of the tooth and
completely mask unattractive stains, chips, gaps and broken and crooked
teeth.

4. Octyl cyanoacrylate was developed to address toxicity concerns and to reduce skin irritation
and allergic response for use as “nail glue”. I did some tests and read about super glue and so‐
called nail glues used for applying fake fingernails. They varied a lot in package design, but the
basic ingredient was cyanoacrylate – the same as Super Glue ™.

If the nail is damaged, the bank supplies a generous strip of flexible RF transmitters than can be
home applied. The cost of manufacturing is so minimal, replacements are easy and very
affordable.

The strip comes in a clear, plastic tube with adhesive and instructions in English and Spanish.
Help line numbers and email addresses are clearly printed on the certificate. These are mailed
to the holders home address by certified mail.
Technology exists that can print on flexible substrate at small cost. Examples:

I did some tests with Super Glue on my nail. It dries clear and makes a
strong, durable protective coating for anything attached to the nail that is free of oil, thin and
flexible.

After executing your regular purchase, and selecting the choice to deposit money from your
account associated with your debit card, you enter amount, then tap your finger tip to the
terminal. Instantly, the transaction is complete and verified at the point of sale, using the credit
card terminal on the counter. Your savings amount is complete in seconds, and added to your
special account immediately. If necessary, the OTHER SIDE of your finger is used for biometric
verification of your identity. Clever, n'est‐ce pas?
