Portfolio Presentation

 1. 1. A brief review of elements in my Portfolio Third Drawer on the Right
 2. 2.

Advergames

Design Documents and ARG Presentation

Print Campaign

Articles

Blogs

Content Overview
 3. 3.

Thums Up Thunderbird

This game is an extension of the TVC featuring Akshay Kumar as an Urban Monkey. The objective was to provide an interactive experience of the thrill element associated with the brand.

Tiger of Mysore

The historical premise of this game along with the element of resource management built inside a war genre framework contributed to this game winning a FICCI Frames Award. We wanted to make an action-strategy game and we did.

Laadli

This game was created for Population First, an NGO, and the objective was to educate people on the wrongs of Pre-natal Sex Determination. Styled as a boardgame, it tested the player’s conscience through a series of questions and facts on gender issues. It won the UN Creative Excellence Award.

Advergames
 4. 4.

seVen: Tangram Reloaded

The brief was to create a multiplayer game for MSN Messenger. I took an existing classic puzzle and upgraded it with new rules, game options and visual treatment. Tangrams have a huge potential, they just have to be packaged right. The deal with MSN did not materialize but I plan to create this game independently someday.

Thums Up Thunderbird

This was the original GDD for the game. I like my design documents to be precise and clear in almost all aspects of an activity. The design guys are given enough space to experiment, but instructions to coders are very specific.

Online Roadies

The brief was to do something ‘exciting’. So we decided to duplicate the Roadies offline experience in a virtual environment. 13 games were sourced / created to resemble real challenges in Roadies 4.0 and the environment fostered groupism and politics ‘As Seen on TV’.

I Died Here: Alternate Reality Game

India’s 1 st ever Alternate Reality Game that worked across platforms and immersed the players in a way that they refused to believe it was a game. I was alloted a tiny budget and we pulled it off through viral promotions on Orkut, Ryze and Google Adwords. 25000 unique visitors in 1.5 months. Unfortunately it’s been pulled off the server as it was a pre-launch activity.

Brainstorm 154

This was a series of 154 ideas around how to leverage brands using Times Medianet as the key platform. Think of them as a hybrid of a print ad and an advertorial. I took this initiative because there was a serious need for innovation at the time I’d joined the company. Some of this is still being executed.

Design Documents and ARG
 5. 5.

Print Ads

These are 2 of the most recent ads out of 3 created for promoting Zapakworld.com at a gaming convention in Ukraine.

We are offering $500,000 for an original flash game. My idea was to either take a very subtle route or an extremely loud / radical route. Reliance likes loud.

Print, Ambient and Corporate AV
 6. 6.

Ambient

I love playing with ambient media and there’s a lot that can be done with it. This is some of the stuff I devised during our launch.

Corporate AV

I used to do a lot of corporate films but then that got boring till Simplex came along. There was some scope of fun here... Not much, but enough to whet our appetite. I’m arranging for a copy of the film, but I’ve added the script for a quick look through.

Print, Ambient and Corporate AV
 7. 7.

These articles have appeared on my blogs and in some cases have been published in DNA Me.

Free Black Swans with Long Tails (Part 2)

This is a 3 part series of posts talking about ‘The Black Swan’ theory, Long Tail and Freemium business models. The articles are a primer to these topics, an introduction piece of sorts.

How to Make a Game

This article highlights the most fundamental ideas behind the creation of a game. It talks about various elements involved in game design.

The Big Question

Humor is my forte and I’m very comfortable writing funny stuff. This is an article on relationships and it was published recently in DNA Me. The original article is from my blog. They published it and changed the title to ‘The Big Question’.

Articles
 8. 8.

I love my Blogs. I try and keep them regularly updated, but life catches up often.

IdeaJugglers.com

This is a Music and Writing Podcast blog. The objective is to introduce people to exciting new writing and also promote fantastic independent music. So writers (published and aspiring) send me recordings of excerpts, poems, stories and an independent music artist offers me a song that goes with the theme. I mix them together and upload the podcast. Fun! You might find some familiar names.

EatMyBoxers.com

A whole load of action figures, a good camera phone and 30 minutes between two projects. EatMyBoxers.com is a comic strip created with action figures in wacky situations.

Sulekha Blog

This is my dumping ground for new poems or stories. There’s a collection of Mr. Scrabble Series of kids stories that I hope to complete in a year’s time. This is a repository of my writing and a testing ground.

Blogs
 9. 9.

NPC

I love reading comics and I’m writing NPC, a graphic novel for the Hope Foundation. The NGO looks after seriously ill kids. They’ve created a gaming network across hospitals where these kids go for their weekly transfusion or dialysis treatments. My graphic novel deals with one such kid and his doctor who’s trapped in a computer game. I’m half way through it and it gives me a lot of satisfaction. I’m seriously proud of this project. We should begin the inking stage in a couple of months.

Bollywood Script

My wife and I have been signed up by PVR Cinemas to write a Bollywood feature for them. Our story’s been approved and we are currently working on the screenplay.

Corporate Magic

I’m a pretty proficient magician with a focus on Mentalism (mind reading) and card work. I used to do corporate events occassionally but now I do magic just for fun. I’ll be glad to show you a few tricks some time.

There’s a lot more that we can discuss.

What You Won’t Find Here
 10. 10. That’s all from my side. Looking forward to hearing from you. Tarun Durga 09820296308 [email_address]
