INTRODUCTION
In the first post we discussed how to recognize cancer in your pet, and we make no apology for
starting on a sad note. Unfortunately, many dogs do sufferfrom cancer in old age and we hope this
article will help to shed some light on a subject seldom aired in the dog owning community.
From a very serious topic we move to one which on the surface
is no more than an irritating one about how dogs get ticks and
how to keep a dog tick-free. We do recommend that you read
this as it, along with the third article “why you need to use
flea treatment regularly”, suggests a natural remedy which our
readers may want to try, and iot also gives guidance on lyme
desease, which is a very serious matter for your pet if it
contracts it.
A dogs eyes and ears are admittedly probably second to a dogs
ability to smell, but they emain hugely important to them to
live an active life. That’s why we think that our articles on
caring for your dog's eyes, and dog ear health, and how to
keep a dog's ears free from parasitic infection, should be ones
for our readers to take an active interest in.
Next, we tackle the subject of health and safety and the
importance of preventing dog accidents. But, as we accept
that occasionally accidents will still happen, so the article also
includes the first thing you do for a dog that has been injured.
Next comes a subject which has to be included as it may assis some readers, we hope that is not you
who needs to know about ”blood in a dog's stool”.
Of course, the next topic is one with which all responsible dog owners soon become familiar after
they start dog keeping, and that is the subject of being aware of your dog's health and how to spot
early indications of illness.

From that it seemed appropriate to move on to the subject of dog ear yeast infections with an
article, which includes natural home remedies for dog yeast infections.
Telling infections from allergies can be difficult so we followed on to our next article on
identification of dog allergies and what to do if you find your dog has an allergy.
As the human population becomes increasingly overweigh so does the dog population, so we decided
to include our next article about canine diabetes and how to prevent it.
Continuing the discussion on prevention and avoidance of ill-health in dogs, rather than cures, we
make a plea in the next article for the importance of dog vaccination.
And, for our next article, still on the idea of prevention, we give useful tips about getting your dog
to swallow a pill.
Something which a dog will almost always be as reluctant to let the owner do, as getting tem to
take a pill, is allowing their ears to be cleaned So, we hope our readers will find the next article on
how to clean your dog's ears to be useful.
It’s back to the subject of ticks again, in the next article, and this time we are in Australia for our
article on how to help protect your pets from their deadly local “paralysis ticks”.
As we have manetioned previosuly, we are all always keen to help prevent accidents if we can and
that’s why we included the following article which is all about why you should avoid playing with
sticks, and avoid injury by “playing it safe” with your canine.
Another article which is not pleasant to think about, but needed to be included to help the dog
owners who see this problem in their pets, follows with tips on avoiding urinary tract infections in
their dogs.
Three articles from the end, and we give our readers more details on how to spot cancer in dogs.
The penultimate article covers an important piece of information on how to treat cataracts in dogs,
with a positive recommendation on a product to check out.
Finally, we return to canine incontinence with an article on how to help in curing your dog of
incontinence.

HOW TO RECOGNIZE CANCER IN YOUR PET
Cancer is a type of malignant tumor or
growths that invade the surrounding tissues
and use the bloodstream to move spread to
other parts of the body.
Signs that the family pet might have cancer
are abnormal swellings that continue to grow,
sores are a few heel, bleeding or other
discharge from body openings, the pet is
having a difficult time eating and swallowing,
persistent lameness, difficulty breathing,
painful urination, chronic coughing, weight
loss, fevers, lack of appetite, and stamina.
If you notice your pet experience the any individual or combination of the symptoms you should
consult your local veterinarian.
Unfortunately, some cancers reappear even after removal of the offending tumor.
Cancer can re-appear unless the tumor is removed and any remaining cancer cells properly treated.
Because of improvements in veterinary care at nutritional needs family pets are living longer. As a
direct result of the longer life span of family pets wore more cases of cancer are being seen.
In the not so distant past cancer and pets was a virtual kiss of death. In today's medically advanced
world of veterinary medicine your pets outcome is more positive. Early detection followed by timely
intervention is the most positive here for your pet's cancer.
In some cases simple removal on the tumor is all that is required to other may any cancer cells. Some
types of cancer require or surgery. The surgery has an excellent success rate with cancers that were
detected early on.
If your pet has a tumor that is inoperable your veterinarian might suggest radiation, chemical, or
biological therapy.
Radiation therapy exposes the malignant cells to high level of radiation with the hope that the radiation
will kill the cancer cells.
Chemical therapy is medication design to kill the cancer cells. In particularly aggressive forms of
cancer chemical and radiation therapy is used jointly.
Other forms of therapies used to treat and comfort your pet when they are diagnosed with cancer are
grooming, nutritional support, Soft bedding, pain management, ulcer prevention, and physical therapy.
If your pet is diagnosed with cancer discuss the options which are available, with the veterinarian.

be done to extend life of your pet.

HOW DOGS GET TICKS AND KEEPING A DOG TICK-FREE
Dogs and in general all pets tend to spend more time outdoors in summer. With dogs it is very
important to be careful about bugs, parasites and micro organisms that can harm them while they get
their whiff of fresh air.
Precautions are necessary to keep these
dangers away. One of these pests that can
cause a lot of nuisance and damage are the
ticks since they carry diseases. Avoiding the
ticks is of prime importance. It’s better than
curing at a later stage.
Ticks tend to stick to warmer temperatures,
and are attracted when they detect raised
Carbon Dioxide, and movement.
Ticks do not transmit through the air. Their
motion is limited to crawling. They transmit
themselves by climbing up taller structures or
plants and drop onto any living and moving
human or animal.
The danger of diseases or kinds of diseases
transmitted by ticks can be substantial but it
very much depends upon the country and culture in which you live, therefore the cure of after effects
of ticks and ticks itself varies from country to country.
The danger of having ticks on your dogs body sets in once the tick bites. The bite itself is painless and
unfeeling but the place of bite might get infected in no time. Consulting a veterinarian is advisable for
treatment which normally involves oral antibiotics.
If your pet dog is diseased due to a tick bite, there is a risk of infection spreading due to your dog
salivation on or biting another pet. The most popular disease spread by a tick bite is the lyme disease

skin.
If you find any, remove them safely. Do not touch the tick, use a alcohol swab, then pull it up slowly
with tweezers. Make sure not to leave any parts of the tick sticking to your dog. If you are
unsuccessful contact your vet.

WHY YOU NEED TO USE FLEA TREATMENT REGULARLY ON YOUR DOG AND OTHER PETS
Fleas can be a large problem when it comes to your pets and home, fleas make everyone itch and
scratch. But it also gives dogs rashes in some cases.
House pets are not the only ones effected by
the menace of fleas, strays are also infected.
However you can at least treat your house to
prevent them from being in your home,
causing everyone and all animals that live
there annoyance and bites.
There are ways to prevent fleas from coming
in, and there are also Flea Treatments that kill
fleas. A good flea treatment to get for animals
is Frontline. Frontline kills ninety-eight to one
hundred percent of fleas.
How fast does this work? Frontline kills fleas within 24 hours of application. After application the
treatment is good for one month. Best of all it is also waterproof for thirty days. Frontline is also gentle
and can be used on puppies and kittens at least 8 weeks old. Treatment works so well because of
Frontline’s special formula that is designed to not only kill the adult fleas but also the young ones and
eggs.
Coming in 4 sizes for dogs based on weight, and 1 dose for cats. Frontline comes in three packs or six
packs depending on what you prefer. Using Frontline is easy, all you have to do is cut the top of the
container with a pair of scissors, then open the applicator, and apply between the shoulder blades on
the skin under all the hair.
There are three brands of Frontline to consider. Spray; Which can be applied for sever flea or tick
infestation, multi-pet house, for quick treatment. Top Spot; For owners who want long lasting action
and owners who want typical application. Plus; This brand carries an additional ingredient (S)-
methoprene this is the chemical used to kill the eggs and young fleas not just the adults.
Frontline kills fleas and ticks when they come in contact with the pet who was treated. There are many
forms of flea treatment out there on the market. However not all of them work very well, and your
veterinarian might know which brand can or will work best for your animal.
Thoroughly cleaning the places around where your pets go helps reduce Flea infestation. This
includes your home, it is suggested that you vacuum your carpets and furniture at least twice a week
to help in prevention.
There are also chemical treatments available that can help with the outdoors however they can be
toxic to your animals and kids so you might want to be careful before application.
Collar applicators can also be purchased however these can be sometimes ineffective since they only
work on the animal and can be toxic if the animal or another chews on them.
You can also boost your animals immune system as bad as it sounds. Mowing your grass outside and
in your ditches also gets rid of some of the potential homes of fleas.
Fleas like areas that are near where animals normally travel, be it in the woods, out in the park, or in
the backyard. Recognizing these places helps in prevention.

NATURAL WAYS TO REDUCE FLEA PROBLEMS
If you are more worried about the effects these products can
have on your animals and potentially your children there are
also natural ways to get rid of fleas, however you might want to
look them up and decide if they are right for you, some of the
natural ways can also have bad effects depending on which you
choose.
One of the natural deterrents used is natural garlic not
purchased in packages but rather bought fresh. This method is

checked over to see if he has a disorder that interferes with his
blood circulation.
If your pet has already been diagnosed with one of these dog eye health conditions, be sure to follow
your veterinarian's instructions and give your pet any prescribed medicine or treatment for the
disorder.
DOG EYE HEALTH PROBLEMS THAT CAN SIGNAL INFECTIOUS DISORDERS
Watch out for inflammation, or redness, around the tissue that surrounds your dog's eye. This health
condition, known as conjunctivitis, may mean your pet has a virus, a bacterial disease, parasites, or
allergies.
Conjunctivitis: is considered one of the most common conditions diagnosed today, and it is usually
easily treated by keeping the dog's eyes in good health, keeping them clean, and giving medicine for a
short while to eliminate the cause of the infection.
If your pet has conjunctivitis, his eyes will itch. Try to stop him from scratching his eyes while you are
treating his eye health problems. Get a cone-shaped collar from your vet if need be, so your pet's
conjunctive eye tissue health infection will have a chance to heal.
KNOW YOUR BREED
Some breeds are prone to have more dog eye health problems than other dogs, so it is important to

DOG EAR HEALTH AND HOW TO KEEP A DOG’S EARS FREE FROM PARASITIC INFECTION
Everyone knows how good a dog’s sense of
smell is, but not so many owners would be
aware that a dog’s hearing is equally good
and important to its well being, and in fact is
essential for his health.
A dog that has issues with hearing will be
severely robbed of being able to ascertain
sounds which will make the dog feel less than
happy. So, it is important for you to recognize
that you need to pay close attention to dog
ear health to ensure that he stays perky as
well as healthy, and of course, happy.
DEAFNESS MIGHT BE A SIGN OF OTHER HEALTH PROBLEMS
If you note your dog’s ear health starting to decline such as his becoming deaf you should immediately
have him checked by a veterinarian as it may actually be an indication of some other illness or even
infection.
In order to ensure your dog’s ear health, you should have him regularly checked by a vet and such
check-ups should also form a part of his routine upkeep, and some parts on your dog’s anatomy that

Also, to ensure proper dog ear health, you must also clean his ears gently with warm water that also
contains an ear wash solution and to also ensure that you remove all moistness from the ears after the
wash as a damp dog’s ear can encourage bacterial growth.
If you follow these simple steps in ensuring proper care for your dogs’ ears, you can at least ensure
that many such common dog ear health problems do not crop up, and thus you will have protected
your pet’s hearing which is so vital to his well being.

PREVENTING DOG ACCIDENTS AND THE FIRST THING YOU DO FOR A DOG THAT HAS BEEN
INJURED
Though it is an unpleasant thought, it is quite
possible that in the lifetime of your dog he or
she will get hurt.
Hopefully, usually it will not be a debilitating
injury and will be one they recover from
quickly.
The best way to insure your dog doesn't get
injured is to train your dog. Obedience is the
key here. If your dog goes into the street they
could get hit by a car. So to avoid that, you
want to train your dog to obey words like
"stay", or "sit". Other possibilities of injury are
dog fights.
Training won't insure that your dog never gets hurt, but should make the chances of it happening far
less likely.
So if your dog does get hurt, what do you do? The first thing you need to do is assess the situation. If
you are around at the time of incident, then you will immediately know what just happened. If not, then
you will get a good indication when you examine your dog.
If your dog is unable to walk or won't come to you then you know there is a very good chance there
are broken bones. Make sure to carefully look them over. The worst possibility is that there is a spine
injury.
The next step is to get them to a safe place. If they can't move, then to keep them from greater injury it
is good to get a coat or something flat under them. Then you can either drag them away, or if possible,
carry them to safety.
If they are bleeding a lot, then try to find some cloth to wrap around the wound to stop bleeding. You
might have to tear or cut off a piece of your shirt if this is the case, or use your coat if you have one.
Another thing you can do is use their collar to help stop bleeding if there is nothing else. Just tighten it
up as best you can.
Some kinds of collars won't work though. It will be hard, but one of the best things you can do is to
reassure your dog by using a calm voice.
Just keep speaking to them. If you and your dog have had time to bond, then your dog should already
see you as security and comfort. It won't help much, but it will help.
Of course the next thing to do is to get them to the vet quickly. Even if the injury isn't severe, it is good
to take them anyways.

BLOOD IN A DOG’S STOOL IS USUALLY CAUSED BY MELENA
The number one cause of blood in dog stool is Melena, which
along with hematochezia is the main reason why your dog will
show blood in his stool.
Melena itself is the blood digested by dogs and it is of a dark
color while hematochezia is like fresh blood found in a dog’s
stool and is not as serious an issue as Melena.
Even though the reasons for blood in a dog’s stool are many,
they can be identified after testing carried out by a veterinarian.
The main effect of blood in the stool is that your pet will
generally show signs of having poor energy and may often also
suffer from incontinence. Accidents can happen as the dog is
not capable of getting outdoors quickly.
To prevent this condition, you may need to restrict how much
food the dog is allowed to eat which will have the effect of
stopping his diarrhea and eventually also allows the intestines to
heal.
However, when the problem is due to infections or even because of bacterial parasites, the condition
will continue till treated with medications or other medical means.
Dog blood in stool is a problem that may affect any dog no matter what its breed or size and can occur
even despite your best endeavors to prevent it.
Common causes for the problem may include medications and infections as well as cancer and
presence of foreign objects in the intestines of the dog, and even metabolic disorders or hemorrhaging
gastro enteritis are other causes for blood in stool.
Also, you need to be extra careful should blood in stool also show other signs such as paleness of
gums, excessive thirst, frequent bouts of urination, loss of appetite or loss of weight.
As a first line of defense, you may try giving your dog a bland diet that consists of rice as well as
potatoes and substitute these foods for its regular food.
However, if this does not work, then you need to take your pet to a vet who can then diagnose why
blood in stool is occurring and then suggest suitable treatment options.
Some of the tests that might need to be carried out for blood in stool include urinalysis, biochemical

Viral infections are frequent among dogs and vaccination can prevent many of these infections. Some
infections are parvo, adenovirus, corona, rabies and distemper. But all diseases and illnesses cannot
be prevented by simply vaccinating the dog.
Therefore the pet must be monitored carefully in order to identify any issues as quickly as possible.
The best person to know and recognize any health issuesis the dog-owner. He sees the dog daily; he
knows the quality and quantity of food that the dog consumes, the exercise that is done by the dog
and the rest taken by him. It is vital, that the owner is aware of the Dog Health and Symptoms.
So if there is anything unusual about the dog on a certain day, it should act as a warning sign of
possible illness. It might merely be listlessness, or loss of appetite or biting, and these signs should be
taken seriously by the owners and the root cause of the problem should be determined.

I decided to look for natural and holistic cures after one of my dogs got rather through the antibiotics
prescribed to him. To cut a long story short I did a lot of research, befriended a vet and asked him
what he thought about the mass of information I’d found.
Well to say my eyes were opened was an understatement.
