I like to introduce myself as the world's second leading authority on the jazz pianist, James P.Johnson. I am clearly not the leading authority ( much to my chagrin), as a biography has already been written by my friend of over 25 years, Scott Brown. It was his senior thesis at Yale, later expanded and published as a book, A Case of Mistaken Identity: The Life and Music of James P. Johnson. As Scott was beginning to write his book, I was producing a 7 hour radio program on James P. We later met, quite by accident, at a job interview in our 4th year of medical school. Go figure.
