The Brazil Football Team
The brazil football team is the most successful team in the history of football amassing a total of about 72
international titles. It has won five FIFA world titles. Despite all this, the team has also experienced some low
moments in its history. The failure to win the 1950 world cup which was hosted by Brazil has been a thorn in their
history after they lost to Uruguay. In this year’s showpiece, many football fans and football pundits widely view
them as favourites for the title especially after their impressive showing the 2013 confederations cup edition
where they blew away defending world champions Spain in the final to win the trophy. Prior to that, the team had
shown a poor run of results most notably being in the 2011 Copa America where they lost in the quarter finals.
There were also poor displays in friendly matches which made the team to drop to 22 in the FIFA world rankings.
After a disastrous
2011 Copa
America showing,
the coach, Mano
Menezes was
dropped and Luiz
Scolari took over.
He was the last
tactician to lead
Brazil to glory in
the 2002 FIFA
world cup edition.
Since his
appointment, the
brazil soccer team
has shown
tremendous
progress that
culminated in them winning the confederations cup in 2013. There has been renewed hope in the football mad
country of holding a successful event and even bettering the results achieved in the 2010 world cup where Brazil
lost to Netherlands in the quarters.
The 2014 brazil soccer team is quite strong with some very talented players expected to dazzle and sparkle in the
tournament. To begin with, Neymar is widely expected to be the star of the team. Despite having an injury
plagued campaign in his first season with Spanish giants F.C Barcelona, it is hoped he will be in top shape when
the tourney starts. He is expected to repeat his heroics from the confederations cup where he was named the
player of the tournament. Julio César will start in goal and David Luiz is expected to partner captain David Silva in
defence with Dani Alves and Marcelo taking up the fullback positions. The coach will be spoilt for choice in
midfield as many players have had great seasons with their respective clubs. Such players include Luiz Gustavo,
Paulinho, Bernard, Willian, Hulk, Fernandinho, Oscar, Hernanes and Ramirez. However, the coach has limited
firepower upfront with Fred and Jo as the only recognised star centre forwards.
With such a squad of world class players, fans all over the world expect the team to start and finish well. Brazil
starts off its world cup campaign against Croatia in the group A.
