2. Genre – Pop/Reggae Fusion
This music video follows the typical stereotypes of a Pop song. Its a bright
colourful video with plenty of close ups of Olly. Although there is no dance
routines the video follows Olly through the video going into all the different
scenes at the Manor House. You can tell the Manor House is a happy place as there
seems to be a party going on with smiling people The narrative follows Olly
starting with the girl who catches his eye to him chasing then getting her. However
with all of these characteristics for Pop there is also a quirky twist to the video
with the Reggae edge on the song.
3. Relationship between lyrics &
visuals
The visuals of the video is all about Olly spotting a girl he likes the look of
so he goes to get her. It starts with him just seeing her, but at the end of
the video he gets what he wants. This goes perfectly in sync with the lyrics.
The lyrics tell a story of how normally he is scared of going for the girl he
wants so he loses out but this time its different. This time he goes for it
and is gets her. “Normally I try to run, sometimes I even want to hide. But I
never knew what I wanted, until I looked into your eyes”
4. Relationship between music &
visuals
In this music video the music & visuals are synced perfectly together. The
beat and speed of the song is not too slow, but at the same time not too
fast so it is very relaxed which goes along with the visuals as Olly is looking
very cool and calm being relaxed. Also the reggae side to this pop song
goes well with the quirkiness of the video with the different sights and
different types of people in the video
5. The demands of the record label will include the need for
lots of close ups of the artist and the artist may develop
motifs which recur across their work
This video going along side the rest of Ollys music videos follows Andrew
Goodwin's theory. There is plenty of close ups of the artist in all of Ollys
videos as they are as if he is telling us a story in his song so will follow him
through the video finding out what will happen. Also he dresses in a similar
style in all of his videos with a similar format of video in how things are
presented.
6. There is frequent reference to
notion of looking
In this music video it has got the voyeuristic treatment of the female body,
however it does it in a very different way to the normal codes and
conventions of a music video. Normally where the girls are wearing very
few clothes being sexually suggestive in what they do, but in this video the
girls are show with class and elegance to go hand in hand with the setting
of the video. The video is about Olly getting a girl he wants and it has
plenty of girls dancing in the background so it follows the normal codes
and conventions but in a very different way to usual.
7. There are often intertextual
reference
Although there are no intertextual references to films or tv programmes,
there are intertextual references to his other music videos and what Olly
Murs is all about. He is a cool, calm and collected character with a true
British heritage style which stays with him for whatever he does.
