17-7. Logging RMAN Output
Problem
You're trying to debug a difficult issue and want to capture the output of an RMAN session.
Solution
You can enable RMAN logging in two ways:
From the OS prompt
From the RMAN command line
From the OS Prompt
From the OS prompt you can use the logparameter to instruct RMAN to send any output to an OS file (instead of to your
screen):
$ rman target / log=rman_output.log
Note The keyword msgloghas been deprecated in favor of the keyword log.
From the RMAN Command Line
You can also spool the output to a log file from the RMAN command line, as shown here:
RMAN> spool log to rman_output.log
RMAN> set echo on
RMAN> backup database;
To turn off logging, use the log offparameter, as shown here:
RMAN> spool log off;
