The hen sees a tree has grown overnight in her backyard and finds it odd. The tree tries to convince the hen to come outside and sit in its shade, but the hen notes some inconsistencies like trees not having toes or shedding leaves at that time of year. It is revealed the tree is actually a wolf in disguise trying to trick the hen so it can eat her. The fable teaches it is difficult to pose as something you are not.
