Office Cleaning Tips & Tricks
December 11, 2013 by lukekayrainbow

At Luke Kay Rainbow,
we’re pretty sure you’ll
love our state-of-the-art
vacuum cleaner, but to us
it’s not just about selling a
product. We’re here to
help make sure you keep
your living and work
spaces as clean and
orderly as possible so you
can be as productive as
possible. In that light, here
are some tips and tricks for de-cluttering your office.
1. Divide your space into zones for your daily functions–perhaps a computer area, a
library area, and a storage area, for example. Think about how regularly you need each
item, and for what purpose. Only those things that you need frequently and
immediately should be within an arm’s length away. Extra pens, papers, cups, folders,
and other backup supplies can go elsewhere. Your immediate circle should be
reserved for a computer, a phone, a couple pens, a notebook, and a lamp (and maybe
one family photograph).
2. Create a paper system that you can stick to hour to hour, day to day. This could mean
hanging baskets or file folders with labels like “To Read,” “To Do,” or “To File.”
Schedule what day and what time you will take care of each so everything gets done
but you never get overwhelmed. Keep long-term and short-term projects color-coded
accordingly so you always know what takes priority.
3. Set limits for yourself as to what amount of material stuff you’ll tolerate. Make sure you
never surpass that limit–once you approach it, it’s time to get rid of older items you no
longer need.
4. Finally sort that all-purpose drawer. Everyone’s got one. Usually it’s the long, thin
drawer right beneath the workspace where people throw random paper clips, staples,
and odd trinkets. Get some dividers and go to town sorting it and getting rid of anything
you don’t need. Do this every four to six weeks, and put it on your calendar so you
don’t forget.
5. Keep your virtual desktop clean too. Digital clutter is still clutter–make sure you just as
careful about your computer’s filing system as you are about your desk’s. Close out
unused windows, tabs, stickies, etc., and organize your email inbox with folders and
flags so everything is accessible and tasks get done.
6. Get hooks to hang your outerwear and accessories. It’s amazing how much room your
coats, hats, scarves, bags, and umbrellas can take up, and how much better your office
can feel once they’re put away in their rightful places.
7. Disinfect your office thoroughly and regularly. No matter how neat you are, dust, dirt,
food, bacteria, and other unfortunate guests are still going to build up. Luckily, Luke
Kay Rainbow has a wide variety of products and sprays that can help with this one!
