2.  Since 1993, ABP has provided board
certification to pediatricians with the goal of
advocating excellence in health care for
children and adolescents. ABP certification
designates a pediatrician’s commitment to the
highest standard of professionalism, and it also
provides members of the public with a
standard by which to distinguish pediatricians.
ABP offers certificates in General Pediatrics as
well as in numerous pediatric subspecialties,
including the subspecialties of Critical Care
Medicine, Gastroenterology, Adolescent
Medicine, and Child Abuse Pediatrics.

3.  To obtain certification, a pediatrician must
fulfill several requirements. For example,
among the requirements needed to be
board certified in General Pediatrics, ABP
stipulates that a pediatrician must have
graduated from medical school and hold a
valid and unrestricted license to work in the
field of medicine. A complete list of

can take certification exams through the
