Some of his previous recordings were produced by Kevin Lecher, Producers of Josie Field and Chris Chameleon. Oran has also, in the past, recorded tracks with Theo Crouse, a celebrated SA Producer. Oran had a song called “Beautiful Unknown” on Kfm for 9 months in 2010 and he grew a large fan base in the Western Cape. Our biggest feedback is that people love the lyrics and the message they convey. “Your album has been the soundtrack to my life over the last few weeks. Thank you!” – Donna Mcullum, Author and The Fairy God Mother It’s not often that a musician’s message is louder than his music. Oran is an activist and a spiritualist first and a musician after. He is a singer/songwriter who uses music to convey his message that imagination is alive and that we can create the life we want and a better world if we realise our unique magnificence and live through our creativity instead of fighting it. “This is a song for, all those at war, who don’t know the war is with them selves.” (Song For, track 4) “I am an artist and listening to your album allows me to sink deeper into the creative realm and inspires my artwork.” Tammy Geber, South African Artist Oran works in the corporate world as well, using his position as Innovator and Facilitator to convey the same message to huge corporations and international delegates. In 2009 Oran Cohen was selected as one of the most interesting young South Africans by the Mail and Guardian and has been called an emerging young global leader by different international Organizations. Oran is the vocalist in his self‐titled band. How does he do it? “I just believe things dont have to be so hard,” he says.‐‐ Ilham Rawoot, Mail & Guardian Oran has spoken at the United Nations in 2003 during the International Day of Peace. Most recently, Oran has finished recording his new album called “Paint a life”, produced by the renowned RJ Benjamin who has produced albums with Vicky Samson, Danny K and Lira. “Paint a life” will be launched officially in May 2011. The album is created on the idea that we live in a heavily demanding and pressurising society where the metal and concrete we are surrounded by strips us of our own enchantment and our unique magnificence but if we just allow ourselves to see the magic and the beauty, the most colourful and meaningful moments can touch us and change us. The album was created with some outstanding South African musicians: ‐ Ryno Zeelie, an accomplished guitarist who has splayed for Danny K and who is now the lead guitarist for the Graeme Watkin’s project. ‐ Matthew Marinus, a drummer supreme who played drums for Zebra and Giraffe and RJ Benjamin and is now the drummer for the Graeme Watkin’s project. ‐ Makati Molekwa who is a long standing, well respected and accomplished bassist performing with some of South Africa’s biggest musical stars for years. ‐ RJ Benjamin a highly esteemed name in several sectors of the music industry played piano and produced the album. As a writer and a producer RJ Benjamin became the most wanted and hottest property in the country. He also developed a cult following among music fans. After the release of his debut album, RJ honed his skills, working with the top artists in the country. Oran …after 12 years in the music industry, is finally getting the recognition he deserves with the release of his debut single ‘Butterfly’ which will appear on the ‘Paint A Life’ album. The track, produced by RJ Benjamin, is such a great chill song and I was hooked onto the track as soon as I heard it …every time I hear the chorus I get into it again. Oran definitely has the potential to become big so I hope the next single is as strong… www.ontheradio.za.net The Story: In the age of a song being “just another song”, there is a more important destiny for music itself; it has a story to tell. Oran has a story to tell through his music.
From a young age Oran’s purpose became clear, he would show the world that possibilities are endless and potential limitless and he would use his music to do it. As a young man Oran worked with Israeli/Palestinian interfaith work, teaching peace and conflict resolution to the youth. Oran has travelled into the deepest part of the Amazon jungle to play music and pray with the Mayan’s in their ancient temples, to the pyramids in Egypt to unite nations with a cause for humanity and peace and to the far reaches of the east to Nepal where he inspired youth to implement positive change in their villages. Oran lives by the words of Einstein: “Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited…while imagination embraces the entire world...” Oran is an advocate of using our uncommon sense to seek meaningful answers both personally and globally to create a better life. Each of his songs has a profound story of his unique life experiences all over the world and each one conveys an important message about life, meaning and possibility. Oran’s music is a celebration of both dark and light and captures the diverse and intensely beautiful moments in life. Beyond the catchy melodies that easily replay in your mind, lie lyrics that tug at the core of what makes each of us so perfectly human. Oran’s songs pierce through the comfort of the known and call to the heart. His music emerges from a poet’s heart, and that is authentic and captivating. “I listen to your album everyday on the way back from work and it awakens my soul.” Pia Storm, Event manager (for MTV Africa and others) Favourite Lyric quotes: “Then it lifts you to remind you how darkness shapes the light..” “No more chasing shadows or thinking what could have been..” “If the earth shifts I’ll shift it right to your feet and if the cards may fall I’ll make them fall as lovers meet…”
The Band: The band has formed a strong unit of musicians who wholeheartedly love Oran’s music and are dedicated to performing nationally and internationally and leaving their mark across the globe. Together they have huge presence wherever they are and easily noticed when they walk into a room as a band, quite unforgettable. In 2004 I joined an Afrikaans rock group called Sonsteek and have been playing for them ever since. I studied music for two years at Damelin music college ( 2006 – 2007 ) with drums as my major subject. After college I started working in the music industry playing drums for various companies and solo acts, these include the following: The Barnyard theatres( South Africa and Bahrain) , RJ Benjamin, Danny K, BMG gospel group. I started playing for Oran as a session drummer but after a few rehearsals and a show I realized that I enjoyed playing and listening to his music more than I usually do in other sessions. I joined the group permanently after that. I find in Oran’s songs and lyrics an almost instinctive belief that he has the ability to reach through to people and make himself be heard by being inspiring to listen to in his lyrics and melodies.
