1. Reflection.
It is easy to acquire the language because we all born with this ability. There are 7000
languages approximately all over the world and because of globalization some languages
are decreasing, on the other hand some others are disappearing and in this case English
language is becoming more and more widespread. This is a very big issue because we as
future English teachers have to be aware of this situation. We should know why English is
so important nowadays and we must be able to explain to others the history of English.
The text shows clearly the origins and the history of English which is pretty interesting. The
history said that the Celts arrived around 3000 years ago and with time there were many
other tribes all over Europe and one of that tribes may derive the names of Britain and
Brittish. When the Roman Empire ruled Europe Latin was spoken. When English officially
starts with the reach of the Brittish Isles there were several Germanic tribes. The word
“English” derives from “the Angles” a Germanic tribe. English has adopted vocabulary from
Latin, French and Scandinavian. The best resource of English and its history is the Oxford
English Dictionary.
The text tell us about different level of the English vocabulary such as: sounds, words and
sentences. English has no tone and no nasalized as other languages and also there is a
big difference among Old English and Modern English. Old English has a number of
endings which are mainly nouns and Modern English use more grammatical words. It is a
change from synthetic to analytic. Also, there are some external and internal changes. The
external change deal with economic, political, geographical and social identity among
others. The internal change has to do with linguistic reasons when words are reanalyzed.
It is interesting to know about English history because now we can know where English
came from and how it was created and the amounts of words which are derive from other
countries.
