The committee is looking to create to a nationwide awareness of family and men’s issues. This will involve visiting every college in Ireland, delivering talks and lecture’s, to enlighten and inform students and academics of these issues. We hope to target, in particular the areas of social workers,councellors, psychologists, psychotherapists, law students and the Garda training college in Templemore
On a micro level, the committee aim to offer education and training to members in the areas of facilitation, mediation, councelling, presentation skills, advocacy, time management, computer skills and training in the creation of new support groups skills – to include Procedures involved, structures, Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer. This will, we hope also lead to career opportunities either within or outside the organisation.
A vital part of our internal programme will be educationin legal matters in particular self representation in court, Mc Kenzie friend, court procedures , court accompaniment ,legal aid and interacting withsolicitors/barristers etc.
The committee aim to develop education programmes to provide health information specific to men and will cover such topics as diet, physical activity and medical conditions
By developing a positive and healthier outlook to individual well-being, we hope to foster emotional self-awareness regarding depression, anger, suicide and other issues. I would like to bring your attention to the National Men’s Health policy 2008 – 2013 which can be downloaded from the Department of health website. www.doch.ie . It includes policies on Men’s health training, health information, domestic violence, fathers, mobile health units, bullying in schools and lots more
